Rising to a height of 881 meters, Gunung Raya is the tallest natural feature on Langkawi. The mountain is believed to be the cursed form of a giant, known as Mat Raya, who once lived on the island. Untouched and covered with dense jungle, it has become the favourite destination for the adventurous. Trekking from a recreational site such as Lubuk Sembilang to the peak is simply magnificent but taking a guide along is advisable. A telecommunications station is accessible via a small road leading to the top. There is a toll of RM0.50 going up this 27km road. Take half an hour but once you reach up there, the view is worth the trip up. Absolutely stunning. I saw loads of eagles & humongous hornbills here. Beautiful butterfly species too. It's windy road. The driver will have fun driving but just be careful of siting next and behind you. If have motion sickness. Do not go up. Riding a bike would be fun too. We can experience the hoe the temperature drop as we ride up slowly. Magic! Happy Driving!
rugged & quiet, we had anticipated a brief walk from the rocky pools only (there being no map or guidance available at the start), but ended up treking up ever steeper paths, some with the aid of a rope slung between trees, to eventually emerge at the sumit for glorious views, a broken summit sign (881m) & curious fast-flying birds. I'd do it again, but this time not in flip-flops!
it is within the oreintal village u will see a magnificant view riding the langkawi cable cars seeing a magnificant veiw of the forests and the sea from height 704 meter above the sea
