I guess it depends all on how close one wants to be to the strip. If you want to be remotely close to the strip, the four queens is not for you. It is downtown, and definitely apart of the freemont street, (this chain of I guess vintage hotels that are bunched together and I'm sure were prime spots during their heyday). The four queens is definitely not in its hey day any more and I guess, the design of the hotel was not the best either, with two sets of hotel rooms (color coded key cards) depending on what side of the hotel you were on. We actually had to wait in line to get on the elevator for our hotel room, which was no fun, but other than that, we had no problems catching the elevator, only during the check in time. If you want to catch a cab from this nostalgic hotel to the strip, it will cost about $20 dollars and about $15 dollars to the Circus Circus hotel (the closet major hotel on the strip to the four queens). It can get a little pricey, so I guess the other option is the bus that I hear runs pretty infrequently. Instead, I pre rented a car through enterprise (airport). it cost maybe $40 dollars to rent the car for the entire weekend and I enjoyed driving right up to each hotel on the strip. If you didn't know, valet is essentially free at every hotel in VEGAS. I gave the valet even at the bellagio and mgm $3-4 dollars. This was definitely appropriate and it was great to have the curb side service in a Cobalt! The room size was pretty good, the tub and restroom could be updated. No real vending machines in the building on the hotel floors, but because we were near freemont street, it was easy to venture out to the other chain hotels for any items. Not bad, but you could do better if you stayed on the strip (it saves money and time). I hear the Plaza, also near the Four Queens is in the same group of hotels that had their hey day, oh about 50 years ago.
We have stayed here several times. Tasteful, quiet rooms each time with plenty of space. Pleasant staff; easy check out and check in. Easy ride to The Strip to see the newest hotel extravaganzas, but we prefer the more cozy Frasier Street area as base. There is something to be said about pleasant human scale after mega-everything.
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Four Queens for a week in the North tower. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was great it had lots of space, en suite bathroom, TV with lots of channels, coffe machine, and was cleaned spotless every morning. We had no problem with any noise either (the 24/7 thing on fremont St has been exaggerated!) and would definitely stay there again. They also have a great "ticket in, ticket out" system with the slots so no carrying buckets of coins around!
Enjoy loud noises? Like to feel your walls and floor vibrate? Then be sure to stay at the Four Queens. With rooms so close to the "Fremont Street Experience" you can almost touch it, you too can shake, rattle and roll on the hour from 8pm to 1am. Need more? Speakers pump out music 7/24 like a sixteen year old male home alone for the first time. I only made it through one of my two night reservation and to be fair there is another tower a few hundred feet father back from the street, but why chance it and have your weekend ruined?
