This place, which gets its name from the constant trickle of water, was the setting of important episodes in the war with Chile (1879-1883). From republican times, only a select group of the large old houses have survived, as the majority were burnt down as a result of the conflict. It is famous for its beach resorts at La Herradura, its restaurants, particularly the picanterĂas (specializing in spicy dishes). The astronomical observatory 'El Planetario' is situated here, built on the historical Morro Solar. From Chorrillos, you can also enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the bay of Lima and out to the island of San Lorenzo in el Callao.Chorrillos is quite a charming town with a different pace of it's own compared to the rest of the Lima neighborhoods. The summer time is a fun time to visit, especially in February when they have "Festival" a time when the women play tricks on the men and the kids throw water balloons at passerbys every weekend. The summer parties last throughout the weekends when you can hear andean folk music and cumbia in the summer air. Chorrillos is a real treat, because you get to see the real Lima and the real Peru without all the tourists who are just two neighborhoods over in Miraflores. You won't find any shopping malls, cinemas or that many american fast food chains (minus McDonald's of course!). Chorrillos has it's own sights to see and visit, such as watching a cliff diving monk at the nearby shoreline. No matter what time of year you visit there's always a festival, great peruvian food and plenty of Peruvian's who are happy to greet the American Tourist. If you want a fun day trip, a break from all the tourist attractions and a taste of the real Lima, then you should visit Chorrillos.
I like almost everything, the culture is very intrestig, and the people too. It's very full of life, and is a cool place.
Chorrillos is the place to be if you want an experience to remember. There is "La Avenida Huaylas" which is famous for all its local restaurants and stores and the people are wonderful. When you visit Chorrillos you have the experience to see the Pacific Ocean from "El Malecon" and all the fishermen of the town are in their boats bringing in more fish from the sea. At night all the town is illuminated and the cross that over looks Chorrillos is seen all the way from Callo.
