Overview

Model railways, teddy bears, puppets, dolls' houses and dollies are all at home in the many rooms of the two four-storey 18th century houses that make up Pollocks Toy Museum. The museum is most famous for its collection of Victorian model theaters as its namesake, Benjamin Pollock, was one of the last publishers of toy theatre sheets. A trip here makes an educational and fun day out for adults with a soft spot for nostalgia. Not to mention, children will love seeing the weird and wonderful toys of the past that have now been replaced by Pokemon and Playstations. Take a look at the ventriloquists' dolls, lead miniatures and puppets, then go and buy some at the toyshop next door.

      A little wonderby Yahoo | 2007-05-17 17:18:18 |

In a small storefront decorated with shadow puppets, near busy Holborne station is a crooked-mile of a museum. Crammed floor-to-ceiling with games, puppets, dolls, and (its speciality) toy theatres, this museum is not to be missed. In the days before mass-produced plastic figurines and electronic games, children's toys were well-crafted treasures. This museum truly takes you to another world.

      I actually can't wait to returnby Yahoo | 2006-01-22 15:17:00 |

Pollock's was my favorite museum in London. I wish it was bigger. They had a lot of really interesting toys from other parts of the world, like shadow puppets. They even had ABC posters in different languages, as well as a karma board game that I learned about in a philosophy class. It is the Game of Good and Evil, which is like Shoots and Ladders, where you climb a ladder for living a good life and go down a shoot for a bad one. This determines what you will be reborn as. Basically the toys there taught a lot about other cultures, and were also really fun. They also have a lot of old toys which ma bring back memories. Definitely check out this uncrownded museum. Their giftshop isn't that good-but that may be a good thing for a travelers pockets-wink wink!

is the eccentric heart of England's toy and model theatre world. this quirky museum and shop takes one back to the 1850's. If you have a soul then Pollocks is not to be missed on a tour of London.
