I was glad that I was alone when I visited this museum, as that meant that I was able to pick the exact things that I wanted to see, and see them, and then leave. I really didn't care for the space. I had heard such great things about it that I was left scratching my head and wondering if I just didn't get it, or if it was actually one of those "emperor's new clothes" sort of things where it was expected that you see it as amazing and so people don't admit that it's not... whatever, I wouldn't plan on spending a lot of time there unless you are a post-modern art fanatic...

We arrived just a few hours before closing. We had a London Pass. They refused to let us in because it was "too close" to closing. We insisted we only had a few hours to spare, and were leaving London the next day. We talked with four different people. They were ALL rude... and we finally left. We walked along the waterfront area toward the Tower Bridge. That was pleasant and relaxing. Forget the TATE... go see the other museums and galleries !!

I'm not a big modern art fan, but I did enjoy spending a little time at the Tate. Anyone who loves modern art will enjoy a visit here, but if you're not really into art, particularly modern art, and you don't have too much time to spare in London, this is not necessarily a must-see.

The original Tate Museum was a cramped museum. It was an old building with a huge collection. When they decided to split its collection between modern art and classic art, they acquired a huge plant on the south side of the Thames, named it the Tate Modern and moved all the modern art. When the newly-acquired plant was renovated, a decision was made to create a huge, multi-story indoor space for installations and or sculpture that you would generally expect to see out of doors. This flawed design has left a huge empty space rising from the ground floor to the roof, and cramped galleries all shoved to one side of the building. After the modern art was moved across the river, the Tate Museum, now known as the Tate British, underwent a renovation. The newly-renovated Tate British, which is in a modest-sized building on the North side of the Thames, now has more gallery square-footage than the massive building that houses the Tate Modern. This is due to the horrible design of permitting a huge part of the building to remain unusable. Beware, it is nearly a mortal sin to speak any criticism of the Tate Modern anywhere in London. Londoners are very proud of their modern art museum, but one only need visit any other city's modern art museum to realize what a failure of design the Tate Modern truly is. The Tate Modern's collection is a must-see. So, if you are a modern-art lover you should go. I recommend seeing the collection; but I will alway commit the mortal sin of saying aloud: The Tate Modern is a terrible space. The standard travelling modern art shows make an obligatory stop and I recommend booking a ticket in advance for any popular exhibit.

The location was great but I was disappointed with the art. Go for the walk over the Millenium Bridge to St. Paul's and along the Thames. Visit the Globe Theatre next door.

I am not a fan of modern art so a lot of this museum was lost on me. The Rodins were nice as was the lay-out. Thank goodness that there were a lot of benches. If you do not really enjoy modern art, it might become tedious buy if you are, you'll be in heaven. All the people working there are very helpful, pleasant and knowledgable. Lots of w.c.s

I've been to the Tate modern only one, but loved it. They have some beautiful installations by some amazing artists. I'd advise anybody, whether they liked modern art or not, to visit.

For the avid art lover, this is one of the top places to go if ever in London. There is a lot to see here and most of the art I enjoyed. I am not an art person, but even I enjoyed it. The building is a newer building with several floors. There is a lot of space for a lot of art. There is plenty of room to move around which allows a person to take their time and the personnel are polite and helpful.

This was a great place to spend the whole day. For anyone who has even the smallest appreciation of art, you should go! Tate modern is probably best for at least teenage to adult, it didn't seem very child friendly. Be sure to bring a camara.

Modern art museums aren't really modern art anymore but more contemporary art. Personally, I find contemporary art to be rather hit and miss between very interesting experiments to degenerative or pretentious work that is just there for the sake of it. TATE Modern has typically been quite good at selecting more of the former, in particular with their large scale projects just inside the lobby - the Weather Project being the most well known of them. Most importantly, the majority of the museum is free.
