Overview

This shrine to the media allows visitors to see footage and hear recordings of some of the most memorable events and programs. The museum has a collection of more than 75,000 television and radio programs, including some well-known commercials from over the years. Visitors can choose up to four segments from the catalogue to watch or listen to at any one time; for example, you could view the Beatles, Elvis Presley, 'I Love Lucy' and 'The Honeymooners' simultaneously. The museum is modeled after a similar structure in New York, established by the former head of CBS Television, William S. Paley. Admission is free.

At first glance, this museum is not very exciting to look at. Sometimes modern architects and designers are just simply not in touch with real people. But beyond that, the museum has an amazing array of programs that visitors can view in private cubicles. If you have memories of a program you grew up watching (for me it was Land of the Giants and Lost in Space), this is the place to go and watch re-runs--with commercial interruptions. I took my kids and they loved it. We laughed so hard at some of the silly commercials and the tacky special effects. Its worth it--especially if you'll be watching Lord of the Rings or some high tech film soon. One really appreciates progress and technology and the human mind!
