Overview

One of over 80 centers countrywide established by the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order, the Manchester Buddhist Centre is situated in a disused warehouse in the Northern Quarter of the city. Now restored and completely transformed, this spacious and welcoming building has two shrine halls available weekdays for meditation, a large reception, reference library, bookshop and wholefood café (Earth) situated in the basement. Other activities run in the center include yoga, shiatsu, acupuncture, aromatherapy and massage under the name of Bodywise.

Open Hours

Mo to Fr from 12:00 PM to 07:00 PM, Sa from 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM

Bad vibes!!!by Yahoo | 2007-11-22 13:12:15 |

The first offputting thing about the centre is the unfriendliness of some of the receptionists there, or the 'bouncers' to the buddhist centre as i like to call them, very territorial, and watch you like a hawk in the shop. i've seen them like this with others too so at least it wasn't personal!!* However very occasionally (!) i have met a couple of very friendly genuine people on reception. Generally, i feel the centre has an unfriendly vibe to it, theres not a diverse mixture of people there and ther's quite a snobbish attitude from people who use and teach at the centre. i went there just to do yoga to relax, but the teacher was an octopus. i complained to someone who worked there but she never got back to me. Thankfully i discovered free classes with a female teacher in Hulme!
