Overview

Asia's first university, the University of Santo Tomas (UST) was founded in 1611, antedating Harvard, America's oldest institution of higher learning. UST was located inside Intramuros but moved to its present site in 1927 to accommodate the growing student body. The front campus is distinguished by large tracts of lawn, an arc de triomphe and two circular fountains. At the far end stands a medieval-looking structure topped by a huge clock tower and statues of saints, philosophers and great writers. A leisurely walk will take you past different colleges devoted to the humanities, sciences, arts and music.

I miss UST and the good old days !by Yahoo | 2008-06-19 07:01:52 |

I graduated from the UST School of Medicine in 1956.I had fond memories in general as a student, especially when UST was winning all those UAAP basketball championships.I retired from my anesthesia practice in October 1991 in Wisconsin and moved to Las Vegas. I am having fun here in Vegas. NONITO M.SABLAY,M.D.,F.A.C.A.

I like to give back to my beloved Alma Mater. As an Electrical Eng'g. student in the tumultous '80's, I took part in sometimes violent protest rallies against then Martial Law, tuition fee hikes, hunger, injustice, etc, etc. UST was an oasis of calm amidst the chaos around it-never lost its focus to educate us angry students. Ninoy Aquino was assasinated just before i left for the U.S. Immediately joined the U.S. Navy where they trained me over 2 years to operate Nuclear Reactors.I excelled academically thanks to my UST's "terror" profesors who make exams very tough they get mad if you score well! American profesors praise you if you score well on their exams. I own a service business now and plan to offer full scholarships to future deserving UST students. It's my way of saying thanks UST-you laid the foundation of my success in this faraway land the good old U.S. of A.

UST in 2006by Yahoo | 2008-04-12 17:49:17 |

Last December 2006, I visited UST and it brought back fond memories of the place and happenings when I was a student back in 1978. I was an average engineering student and got couple of F grades then but the values I learned from UST made an impact on me. I still remember my prof Tatang at m.e. I'm US based now and work in a nuclear power plant for almost 4 years now. UST will be a part of me.

Fun Schoolby Yahoo | 2008-03-11 20:38:11 |

I had a lot of fun in UST when I studied there from 1981-1986. The learning atmosphere was great and if you do your homework, you are definitely going to get what you truly deserve. I returned to UST for a visit in 2005 and found some changes in the landscaping. I don't mind going back to her for graduate studies. The only problem with the College of Commerce was its lack of US accreditation during the years I attended the school. If your college is not accredited, you are not going to get much respect and may have to redo some of your courses here in the US. Perhaps that has changed in the last few years. Check first before you attend. If you are an alumnus and want to write a review, please check your grammar and spelling. You are not doing the school any justice for sloppy writing. To the past and present faculty of UST, thank you for the wonderful memories and keep up the good work.

best yearsby Yahoo | 2008-01-04 07:55:56 |

I am a Journalish graduate of UST (Artlets Batch '81), and I cherish all the four years of college I spent in this university. They were among the best years of my life. I loved everything about UST: its good-natured students, down to earth professors, parks, gardens, historic main building, and its morning masses at the UST Chapel which always set my days off to a good start. Back then, UST was my oasis, my source of solace and tranquility amid the hustle and bustle of Manila. Its conservative temper and traditional atmosphere gave me a sense of security and belonging which I truly needed during those times.

I love this university!by Yahoo | 2007-12-30 04:36:50 |

I loved this university, very high standard, I went to college there for 1 year at the age of 15, section A in Medical Technology, I would have love to finish my schooling there but my dad took us to America. Everyone is very talented in class, it's unbelievable! So you really have to keep up studying and studying and studying or you'll never catch up on your studies.

im a student of UST-AB, the place looks great and the value of education is treasured, but the students are well, BASTOS!!!!! the over-all rating is awful for me because i encountered a traumatic experience from 3 students...the profs are truly disciplinarians, but i think they still need to discipline the male students, especially the ones who are athletes!!!!!!!!

Since i'm currently studying at UST, I am proud to say that for me, this is the best school in the Philippines because they mold us to become the best professionals in the future and teaches to be compassion, committed and competent...

The best !by Yahoo | 2007-09-12 20:56:49 |

The campus is magnificent !!! It is one of the most historical places in the Philippines. Building structures are European-style yet the education system is a modern, American-style.
