Overview
The government-funded University of the Philippines opened in 1908 and is today the country's largest university system. This main campus at Diliman, Quezon City, covers 493 hectares dotted with approximately 26 colleges, 30 research/training institutes, 57 libraries, 10 residence halls, several canteens, theaters, a chapel and an alumni center. Echoing classical Greek architecture with its tall columns and fluid symmetry, the main administration building is fronted by the Oblation (shown in the photo), a rendition into sculpture of National Hero Jose Rizal's poem My Last Farewell.this place is very far from your average stereotypical "university"; indeed, the ambiance there is not really conducive to learning at all. rather, it gives you the idea of mingling with nature rather than concerning yourself with the busy and stressful everyday life. however, a great calligrapher doesn't need a great pen. the students of the university of the philippines, however dilapidated their buildings are, or how much mowing their lawns needed, continues to strive for excellence with intellect. they care little, if some, of the condition of their almost century- old buildings. also, up life is something one should watch out for, since it is said that up students are radical and "politicized", maybe they would also be doing somethings out of the blue, and thinking some ideas out of the ordinary. and maybe that's what makes us unique.and, to relate it with this topic, worth visiting. not saying that the people are the main attraction, though. still has some awesome infrastructures. just look for it if you still have the capability to walk. "if, at first, the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it."- einstein p.s. please read the guidelines for posting-- things to avoid: #3. personal attacks also -- #2. off topics and irrelevant comments. thanks. =D
Place is dirty and students are highly politicized. Too many are self righteous. They often criticize but cannot provide solution. Several think that they are still in the 70s where the streets are their classroom. COnsultants are mostly from UP because thay are good at producing garbage that nobody reads. President of Companies are mostly fromn Ateneo because they look good in public speaking. They are eloquent and dress well. Owner of big companies (70%) are from DLSU. Why, because it is a chinese school. They say that the only thing difficult in DLSU is parking, but why do they own successful companies? Maybe because going GREEN is the future....
The campus gardens need landscaping and the facilities need repairs. It's hard to believe that the university ranks as the Philippines' best educational institution when it doesn't even get attention from the government. As a tourist, I would rather visit other leading Philippine schools like the UNIVERSITY OF SANTO TOMAS or DE LA SALLE UNIVERSITY where you can really "feel" the academic atmosphere conducive to learning in the middle of a busy metropolis.
I didn't expect the campus to look so ugly. I feel like I am in a garbage site. Buildings are dilapidated, walls are vandalised, campus grounds are filthy. Why can't the government take care of this venerable institution ?
It's a reputable academic institution in the Philippines producing bright graduates through the years. I could not find any university in the country which has gathered the finest students in the country. For more than ten years, it has blessed and equipped me with theoretical foundation, knowledge and training leading me to where I am. This university offers varied courses. It has the biggest campus in the country surrounded by huge trees. UP sows love for our country. It challenges students to shine and prepares them for reality outside the university. The best in RP - for this reason I finished my bachelor, graduate diploma, MA and now working on my PhD here.
UP Diliman is an escape from the hustle and bustle of Manila. The tree line academic oval rendered "carless" on Sunday's is the best place for clean and safe family time. It is also the best place to study.
this place was alsome and it only cost $45 a person for 5 mins it alsome u would like it. i did i loved it. and it was so cheap, you should check it out u would probley like it to
the best place to be educated is U.P! At least, here in the Philippines. There's no other university in the Philippines like UP that has their own radio station. DZUP 1602 Boses mo 'to! The sites in UP are the best, with beautiful women around, what more can you ask for? ;)
Sunken garden --- great for stress release, hanging out and just relaxing Whole campus --- impressive primarily because of the trees
UP Diliman is the best place to study in the Philippnes. It is conjusive to learning... Its liberal education is well-known, and its produced graduates are considered the country's best scholars.
