Since 1884, islanders have enjoyed the beauty of this magnificent carousel. Built by Charles W.F. Dare, it is the nation's oldest platform carousel still in operation. Acquired by the Preservation Trust in 1986, the carousel is a National Historic Landmark. Children (and others) may enjoy a ride from Easter Sunday through Columbus Day. Rides cost just USD1 and if you catch the brass ring, you ride for free. Video games and refreshments are also available.I went there with a bunch of friends for spring break and it was awesome! I got the brass ring twice! It is truly one of those places that you must go before you die. The staff is made of lot of hot guys too;)
been riding the flying horses since i was about 4 yrs old and i have to say it was such a magical part of the summer for my sister and i growing up. even at 30 years old i can still remember the feeling when i would reach for that brass ring
the horses are very realistic and have real horsehair manes and tails and glass eyeballs (if you look into the eyes of a horse you will see little animals) yopu can choose to sit in an inside horse(for littler kids), outside horse, or in a chariot., the little ones love taking the rings out ofg the ring bariors andd the older one challeng eachother by how many rings they can get...
Absolute must see for the young and young at heart. My niece was so excited to grab one of the brass rings! My sister is going to make a special momento of it along with pictures of our wonderful time in Oak Bluffs. So much to see and do - great meeting place if breaking into groups and across from Giordano's Pizza makes it even better!
We took our 18 month old daughter...it was her first merry-go-round ride and she loved it. We even caught the brass ring and got a free ride for her!
I loved the experience i got to go to one of the most well known merry go rounds
Great bit of American history that you can acutally sit on! My kids talk about it for weeks before vacation (and they are teenagers now). MUST DO!
Probably one of the only times you'll get to try for the "brass ring" on a true American classic. This carousel is a beautiful antique that continues to live and give your family a lasting memory.
