Overview

The island of Maui is pleased to welcome 'Ulalena, a unique musical celebration of Hawaii's cultural heritage. The performance is held at the newly constructed Maui Myth & Magic Theatre. The fantastic, multi-million dollar venue was built with 'Ulalena in mind. The concept behind the show is to "explore relationships between people, nature and mythology." The show will leave you delighted, amazed and more in touch with the Aloha spirit. Shows on all days except Tuesdays from 6 p.m.

My wife and I saw Ulalena in 2005 and were really impressed by its infectious energy, its awesome imagery, and, most of all, its incredibly stirring music. The lead musician (who has since left the troupe) was frenetic. He provided a complete show of his own, with the most compelling performance we have ever enjoyed. What an utter disappointment the show was this year (2008). Energy was replaced by boring scenes of the cast plodding through the motions, and the music and its delivery have weakened beyond recognition. It is incredibly sad to see the show degraded to such mediocrity. We give this a one star because of the crime they committed in killing one of the best shows we had ever experienced.

my favorite activity in Maui!by Yahoo | 2008-06-28 06:16:10 |

This was actually not in my plan at the beginning! But after hearing some great reviews about it, I decided to give it a shot. And I'm so glad I made that decision. In fact, it became the greatest thing I have done in this island. My limited vocabulary cannot say enough how much I enjoyed the show. But as a brief description about what Ulalena is, I'd say it's a Broadway performance for Hawaii's myths and legends, for its hundred-year history, and for its beauty and mystery. Loved the music (i bought its soundtracks CD by the way)! In general, if you have a chance to come to this paradise-on-earth, Ulalena is something you don't wanna miss!!!

History and Fun in Oneby Yahoo | 2008-03-04 20:02:43 |

I had no idea what to expect, but I never would have imagined a production like this one. I wish they had a DVD of the production, I would have bought it that night. I wasn't impresses with the dinner served before the show, and one sections of the play was a bit long (regarding the field workers). Otherwise, it was wonderful.

Expected more.by Yahoo | 2007-06-19 07:04:26 |

We expected more, there was a lot of singing, great costumes, very colorful. It's a history presentation. Live sound effects and music. The best parts were a funny part with a pig and acrobat dancing in a hanging ring. Would not waist time.

Great show!by Yahoo | 2007-06-14 19:05:28 |

We thoroughly enjoyed the show, which was about an hour and fifteen minutes. Like everything on Maui, it's expensive (unless you want to sit through someone's timeshare presentation--then it's cheap). This show is for the whole family, and the colors, dancing, and singing are truly outstanding.

Don't Miss this Showby Yahoo | 2006-10-25 15:30:22 |

In our first trip to Hawaii on our anniversary, the last thing I had in mind was going to sit in a theater... However hearing buzz about it at a breakfast we decided why not... I am not the sort of guy to intentionally want to go to these type of shows, but I am now... the music and the dance was so awe inspiring. It was possibly the most memorable part of our trip... I even bought a CD. Guys... want to impress your girl with your personal growth... do it...

This was a fantastic show, and can't believe more haven't reviewed it. It was a story about the beginnings of Hawaii, and the singing was in Hawaiian. Basically like a Cirque de Soleil presentation, on a local scale. It was terrific, and shouldn't be missed.
