Overview

The focal point of this park is the Iao Needle. A natural rock formation covered in green moss, it towers 2,000 feet over the park. There are several routes to hike to the Needle. There are also clearings, gardens and a spacious picnic area. Iao Valley was the site of a huge, bloody battle hundreds of years ago, and some locals believe that parts of it are still haunted. A much less romantic and more tangible threat comes from the clouds of mosquitoes that lurk near the streams and attack unwary visitors.

Lush, beauty, and very pleasent. A definet must see. But go on your rental car. This is a free destination spot. But what the brochures don't tell you, is a spectacular park just down the road featuring several cultural gardens await your camera and many Kodak moments. Bring a picnic lunch as it also doubles a a wonderful local lunch spot--can't do that on the bus tours. There are probably 10 pavillions to choose from. As always in the beauty of Maui, please lock your car and don't leave the valuables in the trunk, or in plain view. I lived there for 13 years, this is good info.

I thought it was one of the prettiest places I have ever seen before. It is very peaceful and relaxing.
