Overview
Maui is like heaven on earth, and Kihei is right in the center of it all. The weather is always perfect, even in the heat of the summer. Just when you think it might be getting a little too hot, about 1:30 pm the trades pick up and it's beautiful. Kam III beach is perfect for little ones and adults alike, especially in the morning hours. As it gets toward time for high tide (usually somewhere between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm) the waves get to be a lot of fun for the bigger "kids". Oh, and all those pictures of Maui...the pictures are not doctored, the water is really that blue, the foliage is really that green, and the flowers are really that beautiful! We stay across from Kam III, at the Kamaole Sands, and the view from our condo is exceptional. You have the ocean in front of you and mountains behind you and also to the right. What more could a person want?! When I find the right job, I'm there permanently!
We went to Maui for 3 weeks in the summer and Kamaole Beach 1 was the only beach we went to. The waves can sometimes be small but they can also be pretty big too, ( make sure you check the wave forecast before bringing little ones in the water) We had the waves rolling in about 6 feet and the signs were put up for dangerous shorebreak, Perfect for bodyboarding. When the waves are small it is very nice to wade in the water and go for a relaxing swim. Reef on both sides of the beach are great for snorkeling. ( to the left in front of the royal mauian and to the right next to charley young beach). The snorkeling is fantastic and we found ourselves swimming all the way from the west side of the beach all the way to kihei cove without even realizing it. This is a perfect beach for everyone, Extreme, relaxing, beautiful i would completely reccomend this beach for your next trip to maui.
I loved this Kihei, Maui, HI beach, it was perfect. I have a three year old son and it was wide and flat enough to run along easily and deep enough that many families could set up without obstructing the fantastic views. Sometimes the waves were too strong for young ones to be out but the guards were careful to place the warning signs out. My son loved running from the breaking waves! Just leave jewlery at the condo, you'll loose those rings boogie boarding. I visited other popular Maui beaches: Ka'anapali beach and Ulua beach in Wailea. In Kaanapali the beach nearest Whaler's village became steep, and in Ulua, (once we found a parking spot), it was busy and there are areas with large rocks.
Awesome sunsets, soft sand, and great spot for relaxing. We went during Memorial Day week. Great time of the year to go to avoid crowds.
Kamaole Beach Parks I, II or III are almost always sunny. If you are staying in West Maui (Kaanapali & north of there) and the weather is overcast, head for Kehei and go to the Kamaole Beach parks. Free parking, Facilities for you and the kids, Nearby food and drink.
The Kamaole Beaches are perfect for your kiddo from toddler to preteen. The surf is gentle enough that small children can wade out with out fear of being thrown down and tossed about yet there are enough breaking waves that the older kids can boogie board for hours. The sand is soft and at low tide there is enough wet sand to build sandcastles as big as desired. Having visited many of the beaches on Maui and having a 9 and 10 year old this was the best place for the entire family.
This is a perfectly relaxing place to sit on the grass and watch sunsets. They are amazing. On our trip to Maui we stayed in Kihei and went every evening to these parks. You won't be disappointed.
I LOVED this beach...I visited this place in May (though the off-season, it is the sunniest month of all), and the sands were pure white and the waves were extrordinarily bright blue! I also suggest you visit in May, where you are able to see Maui at it's mosty tropical and sunniest :)
