Visited many times during 1986 till 1990 and back again in winter 2004 with 2 couples and my wife. For first timers, it's a die-die must visit place. An icon to proud Melbournites. Must allocate at least 4 hours to cover the whole place, it's humongously large. Get to see a racial harmony with diverse nationalities from Russia, China, Korea, Eastern Europe, Meditteranian, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Fiji, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myammar, South Africa, etc. Clothes are worth the buy especially leather jackets, winter woollen attire & accessories, children wear. Souvenirs are aplenty and cheap but always bargain for the best price. Could have been improved with more varieties especially setting a strict quota whereby curbing some too many stalls selling similar products or merchandises. Overall, it's a nostalgic and historical structure to be at. Like what I've said earlier, this place is a MUST to go if you're a first timer. It's bigger than any markets in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Hobart or Perth. Proud to be there!!
IF YOU HAVE A GAS MASK FOR THE SMELL ITS ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING MULTI CULTURAL PLACES I HAVE EVER BEEN. SAME AS THE SYDNEY MARKET I WENT TO LAST SEPTEMBER. YOU CAN GET THE BEST UNBELIEVABLE BARGAINS. ITS SO COOL. CANT WAIT TO GO AGAIN ONE DAY. RETAIL THERAPY IS SOOO COOL. CHEERS
It's Good 4 1st timer 2go bargaining on sat & sun. Alot of things going on there. From morning till evening. Foods, clothings, seveniours, animals ride 4adults n childrens not 2 4get bring ur cameras 4snap shots. Wonderfull n sweet memories there.
I'm 25 years old, i used to go when i was a child. I enjoyed going their then but not anymore. The shops are still the same, it seems like their selling the same clothes as they were 10 years ago. Unless you like people knocking into you and loud places then this place ain't for you or me!!
What I like about Victoria Market is that it's the bigest and the most largest Market that I have ever been to and the only thing that I like about it because it's got one of the coolest restrauants and they also have awsom food and they've got some really cool cloths and etc.. It's just got everything that you can possibly buy and people go their everyday just to shop and so that is what I like about Victoria Market. And the 1 thing that I like about it that is because everybody is happy to shop their. And that's why it's big because everyone has a really good time and we all enjoy ourselves in Victoria Market it is a really enjoyable place to go to.
It was an eye-opener for me. So many stalls with so many different types of goods all at one location. Lots of souvenirs (e.g. t-shirts, soft toys, flags, etc.) to choose from. I remember one stall where they custom-make caps and tags on the spot. It was interesting to see how the machine sews your name on the cap. I wil always remember the hustle and bustle of the market, especially where fresh food was sold - the meat, cheese, seafood areas. It was a very lively atmosphere.
I went there 10 years ago. I found the whole place amazing to walk around and just take in. The noise, the sites, the smells. Vegetarians beware, there are lots of carcasses on display in the butcher shops. It was a great place to pick up some souvenirs (a dijeradoo and sweatshirts) at a reasonable price compared to tourist shops.
