Overview

Australia's most famous living museum, this award-winning heritage village brings to life the 1850s gold rush era. Horse-drawn carriages transport passengers through gold diggings along the creek, where "miners" and excited children pan for "real" gold. There is a replica Chinese miners camp and a dusty main road complete with traditional hotel and shops selling authentic nineteenth century wares. A highlight is the "Blood on the Southern Cross" show depicting the Eureka Stockade rebellion, a short but bloody battle in which 25 miners died fighting for fairer licensing laws. They do not accept cash so make sure that you carry enough cash along.

This was the place in which i enjoyed the most during my stay in Melbourne apart from the beautiful old historical buildings in the city. The little shops along the street were fantastic as i felt like being in an authentic cowboy town. The coffee house experience was really great, the waitresses were dressed very nicely, similarly to those in the old English days. N of coz i love the hourses n cowboys. They were so awesome!!

Loved the history! The battle was realistic. I admire the people who broke away from the English to make their own life in a new land. I'm live in America - although some of my ancestors are English I think the English of old to be horrible! They treated their own people very poorly - freedom is what it's all about.

Fantastic!!!by Yahoo | 2005-11-04 00:22:50 |

It was great! For young, old and in the middle. The old fasion lolly shop is really good. You can find real gold in the creek! The sound and light show is definitely a must! The old fasion bowling is great for the kids! To tired to walk? Catch a ride on a coach! It's all there!
