Overview

The 2,800 animals of over 400 species here are cared for in environments as close to their native habitats as possible. From African veldt to Asian temple ruins, Peruvian rain forests or Jamaican caverns, the animals roam free. Young children will enjoy the "Once Upon a Farm" exhibit and the amusement rides. The apes and monkeys in Primate Canyon will amuse the whole family. Do not miss the lions and tigers in Cat Country. Trams make getting around the park easy; wheelchairs and strollers can be rented.

Memphis' best attraction!by Yahoo | 2008-10-08 21:30:47 |

Lions and tigers and bears! Oh my! This Zoo is the best in the nation. Try to come during one of their special events; it's the best deal in Memphis!

Most of the exhibits are first rate. We loved the Northwest Passage where you can watch the polar bears swim underwater. There is also an amphitheatre to see the sea lion show. The Discovery center is great for little kids, but could stand to be updated a little. It is a nice size zoo that can be a whole or half day trip depending on how much time you want to spend at the exhibits.

exciting and funby Yahoo | 2008-05-30 13:28:53 |

I really enjoyed the Memphis Zoo and aquarium. Seeing the lions snd tigers in a semi natural habitat was great. I really liked seeing the pandas and the polar bear exhibit, I could have watched all day. If you are ever there try to see the animal shows provided by the zoo education department.

LOVED IT!!!!!!by Yahoo | 2008-04-21 13:57:57 |

ME AND MY FAMILY CHECKED SEVERAL ZOOS IN A 3 HOUR RADIUS. WE DECIDED ON THE MEMPHIS ZOO AND ARE GLAD WE DID. IT WAS VERY CLEAN AND WELL MAINTAINED. THE ANIMALS SEEMED TO BE VERY HAPPY AND THE ATMOSPHERE WAS GREAT. WE WILL DEFINATELY GO BACK AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO GO AS WELL.

The zoo is cooby Yahoo | 2008-03-20 19:24:22 |

I love taking my daughter to this zoo. It's clean, the sea lion show is cool, and we love to go see all the different animals and take pictures of them. It's definitely worth the time and I would say worth the money too. I have heard people in this area try to say that gangs have taken over the zoo but that's just not true. I don't feel unsafe at the zoo at all. If I did I wouldn't take my daughter. I would recommend it, it's a great place to take kids and also a good place to go with your friends or significant other.

Great zoo!by Yahoo | 2008-03-17 03:31:43 |

I've been to several zoos, and this was by far the best one! There were some really great exhibits, and the keepers were really informative. This place is huge, and it took us all day to go through everything. It was clean and well-organized, and the enclosures seemed adequate. I saw some animals here that I've never seen at other zoos, and I would definitely recommend it.

Great Medium Size Zooby Yahoo | 2008-01-24 21:01:33 |

Memphis has an excellent zoo located in scenic Overton Park. I go every Labor Day weekend when I travel to Memphis to see friends. The zoo is clean and well maintained. The exhibits are generally up-to-date with reasonably naturalistic environments and enrichment opportunities for the animals. The polar bear exhibit in Northwest Passage is a must see especially at feeding time. I would not miss Cat Country, the Tropical Bird House or Once Upon A Farm either. The aquarium is a small but nice part of the zoo, but if you are looking for a full blown aquarium experience, look elsewhere.

the view of the zoo from a memphis nativeby Yahoo | 2007-12-02 01:58:31 |

i grew up in memphis and spent a lot of time visiting the overton park zoo. i always enjoyed the time i was there. i especially liked feeding the giraffes. back in the 50's they let you feed them. it was amazing to do so even when you touched their tongues as you fed them! now, unfortunately, the public is not allowed to feed them. i also enjoyed the peacocks and the monkeys on "monkey hill" also. i've been back several times since i've grown up and moved away to atlanta. i still enjoy the memphis zoo and the memories. i will go there again when i'm in memphis.

Very neat and clean. Setup of the zoo is good. Not overly priced. I have been to many zoos and this is one of the best!
