Overview
One of the greatest tourist attraction in Merida and Venezuela, this is the longest (12.5 kilometres) and highest (reaching 4765 meters above sea level) cable car in the world. This extraordinary achievement of engineering was constructed between 1957 and 1960. Its 90-minute trip starts at the Barinitas Station (at 1625 meters of altitude)finally arriving at the Pico Espejo Station, 4765 meters above sea level. Every station along the way has a restaurant and observatory. Each car has a capacity for 36 people.the teleferico has not been in working order for about 2 years and they say it will not be up and running for a a long time. so take it of your list of things to do.
I thought Merida was a great relief from the humidity of the coastal highway route to get there. Teleferico was what you expect- a great trip. alert: It's 15,000 feet at the top so take cold weather gear- it's a glacier at the top! NO sandals/shorts..this is serious elevation!!
I went as part of a months trekking and the cable car was definitely a great experince. After being in Merida for a few days we took our bags and walked upto the cable car at 7am and had breakfast on the roadside. We got on the cable car which was spectacular. the views were great and there was information at each stop as to how cold it was and how high you were. The views of the changing environment were breath taking. On the way back down we only went back down one station and then walked the rest which was really good, as we camped in the clouds. Although Venezuela isn't a holiday destination , you should visit and go on the Teleferico!!!
Merida i loved it there. The teleferico was indeed an experience which i will never forget. taking a cable car to km in the mountains with the picturesque views of the Andes. What an experience? it was amazing. I can't wait to go back. Love it...
Today we are going to the Teleferico. This is the longest (12.5 kilometres) and highest (reaching 4765 meters above sea level) cable car in the world. Today we are going to Parque Los Chorros. Parque Los Chorros has 4.5 hectares of lively nature including the only natural waterfall in a capital city park.
It`s a unique experience travelling in the largest and highest cable car in the world. I recommend to make a previous reservation and not make the everyday`s long lines.
