Overview

In the Plaza de Santo Domingo, on the old site of the Palace of the Inquisition, today we find the Museo de la Medicina Mexicana (Museum of Mexican Medicine). Visitors are taken on a historical journey from the pre-Hispanic era to the century that has just concluded, chronologically ordered in the following way: pre-Hispanic Native American herbal medicine; followed by a breakdown of medical advances in each century from the sixteenth through to the twentieth. Visiting this museum is a fascinating experience and the piece de resistance is the replica of a 19th century apothecary, complete with genuine furniture and objects, all in perfect condition. The School of Medicine was housed for a hundred years in a baroque seventeenth century construction, the building that we see today, until it was moved to its present location in the university campus.

i loved the medicine. I learned so much about the pueblo indian usage of herbs and other things of that nature. They were very smart people, and I am proud to have visited this museum on my trip to Mexico City. YOu see, I was there with my corporal business group and I would go back in a moment! My boss says that I am the best worker because i proposed Mexico City as the trip for our company. Now i got promoted to lots of money. Thanks Museum of Medicine!
