Overview
The atmosphere on this shopping and dining strip rivals Ocean Drive or Lincoln Road for energy, but unlike some of Miami's heavily trafficked shopping areas, CocoWalk also retains the quaint flavor of a small village. Dozens of shops and restaurants line the street. Live entertainment appears periodically, and minstrels wander the streets. A 16-screen AMC movie theater is joined by such favorites as Banana Republic, Express, Speedo and Perfumania. Cafe Tu Tu Tango is a favorite among the area's seven restaurants, including Cheesecake Factory, Coco Gelato, and Cafe Med.Open Hours
Su to Th from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, Fr to Sa from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PMCocoWalk was a great day for me and my family. I drove down from FT.Lauderdale and put in Coconut Groove in my GPS and it was great. We walked around had dinner and did some shopping. My wife was in heaven. The walk was very clean, people all around you were NICE. They had this small petting zoo in the center court for the children and I was suprised to find out that it was free. My son loved it he could not stop laughing. There was a good amount of things to do there and you should definitly visit the Walk soon!!!
Maybe I missed some secret alley, but this place to so standard.. GAP, Black and White, Victoria Secrets with some small ghastly old-lady Florida style boutiques mixed with others not worth mentioning. Did I miss something? The whole tour of the area (if you skip going into the shops) would take 5 minutes. Hmmm.
Many of you may know this: The Grove was an artist/writers/tennis bum community for much of its recent history. I know. Even though I was a kid, I played with a lot of adult tennis bums. The Grove was the place that people who lived on trust fund accounts came to buy a little cottage with a lot of foilage and live a simple life in a funky villages. Yes, there was some upscale shooting, but the most popular stores were the "head shop" where you could get 30 different kinds of rolling papers and bobg; Maya Hatcha, a small women's boutique with "groovy" 60s fashions; and This N' That shop, a second-hand store where you could find the scraps of the monied class that inhabited the Grove: Pierre Cardin shirts and ties, Brooks Brothers khakis. Peacock Park was the scene of the "free love" movement in Miami. Then the developers started moving in for the kill. They built high-rises, luxury stories and the gosh-awful Mayfair Hotel (and the attendant mall) and the even more repugnant Coco Walk. The Grove has been Yuppie Ville since the go-go '80s. No working person can afford a decent home there and indecent homes in the worst part of town are being listed for sale at $450,000. I say: CocoWalk, get out of the Grove.
I've got to disagree with the person who said that Cocowalk was a tourist trap with little to do. I live a few blocks from Cocowalk and I'm there all the time, for one reason or another. There's a fun atmosphere for young people day and night. Whenever my friends visit me here they prefer going out in The Grove to South Beach. It's safer with a more vibrant atmosphere. South Beach is where you go if you want the tourist trap and $20 cocktails. Older people enjoy Cocowalk as well, my mom loves the area and the mojitos when she's visiting.
If shopping is for you you will love this. Every shop has something different. The choices for your dinning experience, excellent. Will go again.
Cocowalk is a small crowded tourist trap with few stores, but several restuarants\clubs. Movies are cheap here, but showtimes are too early (last show was at 8:30pm). Caricture stand and live singer (in Spanish) and colorful design gave the place a carnival atmosphere. There is a limited number of stores there because of how small the space is there (and one hadn't openned yet and one was moving out). After eatting, there wasn't much else for me (as a simgle traveller) to do there.
Cocowalk is a great place for wandering outdoors and enjoying Miami cafe life! Teriffic for those of us with kids, who could run arould all day. The nights get a bit loud; be sure to stay a few blocks from the commotion.
It's still a pretty good place to shop and an even better place to go to a club. It's no South Beach though - this crowd is younger and wilder. The parking usually rates around $6 to $8. But through-out the years, it keeps getting larger and larger. It's a must-see for any tourist that loves to party. If you don't, come during the day and enjoy the great shops. They're not that expensive at all.
