Overview

The facade of the Prefecture, dating from the 19th Century, looks out over the large Place des Martyrs de la Resistance. The Prefecture occupies the site of the Hôtel de Ganges which later became the Hôtel de l'Intendance in 1718. The old entry to the Hôtel de Ganges is still visible to the left of the 19th-century facade and faces out onto the charming Place Chabaneau. The elegant fountain in the center of this square was sculpted by Joseph Journet in 1775.
