The best-known cocktail bar in Montreal serves over 65 different martinis in a kitschy atmosphere of lava lamps and vinyl chairs. It's a great place to play "Spot the Celebrity," with sightings of Nicholas Cage, Nick Nolte and Pierce Brosnan recorded. The setting is 60s sofa lounge, with a casual to trendy dress code (no shorts). There is nightly live music from Latin to techno-lounge, and a homey feeling to the place. Happy hour goes from 5p-7p on Th and F.
I went to Jello Bar on a Saturday night and just loved it. The two room approach with a dj in one and live soul/funk band in the other allowed us to really mix it up. Although a bit expensive, the martinis were delicious. Would I come back here.....no question in my mind. Great crowd, very chilled and stunning retro decor.
A friend and I came across Jello Bar in an outdated Lonely Planet Montreal. The bar was listed as having a $5 cover charge which actually turned out to be $12. A little high for us, but it did include a coat check and a very tight funk band. The atmosphere was top-notch loungy kitsch, and the crowd was friendly. I would have stayed longer if the pints weren't $7. A great place to go if rolling in dough.
