I have been going to Montreal for vacation for over ten years and have yet to miss a trip to Moishe's. I and a few friends usually make it the big dinner of our trip. The service is excellent and I have yet to have a bad meal. I can honestly say that in the ten plus visits I have only had one steak that was not absolutely perfect, yet it was still better than anything I have had in all but one or two of the dozens of fine steakhouses I have visited. We usually have a group of four to six people and I have only heard one complaint and that was from a non-foodie who is rather cheap. You will definitely pay more than a big name chain joint, yet you will know you received your money's worth. If money is a concern try lunch, same great service etc. with a little less food and a smaller price.
Over rated. It is like a smoked meat house with very expensive plates. The setting lacks intimacy, the mains are $50 for steak that requires an electric saw to cut through. I ordered medium rare and found more juice in a prune. Not only was my steak lacking in juice, it was charcoiled on the outside, no steak at that price should be burned for consumption. The highlight of the meal was the bread. Why they bring a bowl of pickles and cole slaw is beyond me. Stay away from this place...go buy your steak at Adonis and give the other Semites some business.
Well, the overall experience was nice, the atmosphere was as expected and the service impeccable. We are of the opinion that you didn't get your moneys worth. And this from individuals who travel the globe for work and eat almost exclusively at steakhouses. Nonetheless, the filet mignon was enormous and very good, a charred tasty crust with a juicy interior done as requested. But steer clear of the 'mixed grill' platter which was less than acceptable for the high price everything was overdone and lukewarm at best. The chocolate molten cake was unevenly cooked, I don't mean the center, I mean one half was overdone, the other half perfect. The overcooked side was similar to the taste and texture of cake mix, which is a shame since the gooey properly cooked side was delicious.
I am sorry for anyonne who said they did not enjoy Moishes, they must be in steak denial. I have been coming to Moishe's all my life, my first time was when I was three weeks old! The bread has stayed fresh and tasty, the coleslaw still gives my tastebuds a work out, the salads still have the same crisp lettuce, the potatoes are always creamy with loads of taste and the steak.. well you don't even have to talk about the steak. The steak is packed with flavour and juices and marbled to perfection. Finally the desserts are one of the main reasons I keep coming back, just give me a nice tasty orange sherbert after my big steak and I am satisfied...Nuff said
Moishes has the best T-Bone steak that I have ever had. It is so tender, you can tear it off with your fork. NO KIDDING. They also have a fabulous dessert tray so you can try differnt types of dessert. Every time I'm in Montreal I go here. It is the best, period.
I have been wanting to try this out. The steaks (rib steak and NY strip with pepper sauce) were not marbled to be of top quality. The pepper suace was tasteless. Barberian's in Toronto was much better. Major disappoinment.
nice location. pleasant table settings. Bread was fresh and butter served on ice. gherkins seemed out of place- watery a bit sour lacked texture gentle dill flavour. Cole slaw served on table at arrival seemed out of place- lacked texture flavour or colour to0 sour. Salmon starter served with onions was sour and actually pickled what a travesty for juicy salmon- this dish would be perfect where there are doubts as to the fishes freshness but I think it was fresh. Prawn salad was large prawns covered in tomato ketchup I kid you not Roast Chicken and roast salmon mains were burnt to charcoal on top rendering the bitter burnt flavour some customers demand even though the meat was juicy Filet was good and thick again perhaps a tad too black on the outside. rare to medium rare was well done on outside third and rare in depths but even the pinkflesh was dry no pink blood/juices at all why not?? light on flavour begs the source of this meat. THIS is the best steak in town?? I will give steaks in montreal a miss if so but I suspect hype. Service was reasonably attentive and though not personal, efficient. Espresso lacked aroma and length of flavour also rather short of crema I cant comment on wine list as I was not paying
The title says it all. You can cut this meat with the edge of your FORK! Remarkable atmosphere...Fine wine...We will make this restaurant a reguar stop on any and all travels to Montreal.
We have been to Moishe's on several occasions while visiting Montreal and it never fails. Pleasant decor, excellent service and the best steak in Montreal. They offer either the strip or the filet and both are tops. Side dishes are excellent as well including great bread and rolls. Second best steak house I have ever been to after Brooklyn's Peter Luger and some might like it even better. Don't miss it.
