Overview

St-Viateur is in constant competition with Fairmount Bagel, located just one block north, and it is very hard to tell the two apart. Locals are fiercely loyal, however, and will have patronized one or the other for generations. The traditional sesame-seed variety is now supplemented by poppy seed, whole wheat and many other flavors. This 24-hour bakery is located in the interesting Mile End district, once home to the majority of Montreal's Jewish community. Only cash is accepted.

Best Montreal Bagelsby Yahoo | 2006-10-09 16:46:10 |

They have the best Montreal bagels, original style, hand-made and wood fired. The price is worth and the service is excellent, you should go and try, they are the best!

Tasty, inexpensive bagels ($5.25/dozen)! Totally unfinished storefront (don't run into the egg fridge like I did), with a small counter to pay and a full view of the oven and the bagel-maker. I'm no bagel expert (in fact, you might call me a heretic), but I still prefer Siegel's in Vancouver. Don't get me wrong, though - they're quite good and everyone I've talked to swears by them. Nosh a poppyseed bagel and stop in to the chocolatier next door for some amazing European hot chocolate.

St-Viateur Bagel *the best in the World*by Yahoo | 2004-11-10 02:26:38 |

Ten stars. Five stars are not enough. These are the very best bagel one can sink one's teeth into. NYC have good bagel; Toronto's are so-so but the ones from St-Viateur Bagel [from the original location on St-Viateur] are, in a word, awesome.
