The old city has a lot of history shown in its buildings and churches. A lot of cafe and art boutiques. I bet in summer it is much more alive. A lot of cafes and restaurants were closed and streets are empty. It was freezing.

I really had the feeling that I am in Europe. We took a walking tour with an official guide, Louis, it was amazing. Actually the new buildings were indistinguishable from the old one, because they have sort of melt it together. The style of the new buildings has to match the style of the old one next to it. I recommend everyone a walking tour in the Old Montreal. It takes about one and a half hours.

perfect for couples taking a stroll, old european architecture, really beautiful! Walk to Place Jacques Cartier for street entertainers on the weekend, great for kids. Many restaurants in the area and towards the river many ice cream shops and places to rent bicycles/rollerblades. Perfect to go on the weekends

The Old City was lovely. There are plenty of shops and restaurants, all of which will gladly bear with you as you struggle with their language. We were there for 3 days and not a single local gave us any grief about our halting French. The architecture is beautiful and the proximity to the waterfront is a treat. Nothing is cheap but, hey, it's the tourist area of town; what else would you expect? That being said, prices weren't outrageous. We'd go back next weekend if we could.

Beautiful area, very historic. Lot's of cute boutiques and cafes. The only problem with it is the employees of the stores, cafes, etc. I have never come across so many snobbish people in my life. Typical French.

Old Montreal was very picturisque and entertaining. There was so much to see and do. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. There are many attraction and cute little streets to absorb our time there. I found it very amusing and fun!

Just walking through the streets makes you feel as though you are in Europe. The architecture is beautiful and people are relatively friendly as well. My three kids (all under 10), however, just could not appreciate the its artistic and historical elegance. They were happier going to the Biodome and Insectarium instead. The cathedral of Notre Dame was amazing...

It wasn't that interesting. The funest thing was a ride on a horse carridge. There's a lot of walking. And basicly thats all, and sight seeing (buildings).

Vieux Montreal (or Old Montreal) is the oldest area in Montreal, dating back to the colonial times (the 1600's). It is worth a visit for a tourist or new-comer. It is good to start with the 1hr30min cruise ride in the watters of Saint Lawrence River. Then you can take the 45-min bus ride and go around most important places. A visit to Basilique Notre-Dame is a must. Other attractions include: Montreal City Hall, Bonsecours Market, Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel, Place d'Armes, Sulpician seminary, Bank of Montreal building, New York Life building, Place d'Youville, Place Royale, and Pointe-
