History Taraporewala Aquarium is designated to be one of the best in India. The aquarium took its birth in 1951. The aquarium is named after Mr. Taraporewala, a Parsi philanthropist who was instrumental in setting up the aquarium. The initial grant of Rs 200,000 from Mr. Taraporewala paved the way for setting the aquarium. It is now supported by the Maharashtra State Government. Virtual Tour At the entrance, you

This aquarium is small and dingy. It has very few species, and most of what it does have are fairly common. It is only a single floor and it is poorly lit. Visitors are not allowed to take photographs, but there really isn't much worth photographing anyway. The most interesting part of the place is the gift shop -- not only because of the better lighting, but they actually have a large number of smaller tanks containing small species of fish, crustaceans, and other such marine life, although most of them are things you could just as easily have in a fish tank in your living room. Overall, the place really isn't worth the time and effort to get there, unfortunately.
