Overview

Sorrento is one of the most famous and popular tourist resorts in the province of Naples and its fame has spread around the world. It is located in an enchanting position on a natural terrace overlooking the sea. The town's streets are full of fashionable shops and characteristic artisans' shops selling local produce. The wonderful climate attracted Roman noblemen back in ancient times. They came here and built villas. The most suggestive remains are those of the Villa di Pollio Felice. Today Sorrento is a rich and elegant city with a first class selection of hotels able to cater to all tastes.

Beautiful views everywhere. Good food, though you need to choose your restaurant. There are some nice pensiones on the hills above town. Traffic and parking can be awful. Nice inlaid wood products from inexpensive music boxes and plaques to extremely expensive furniture. They'll ship world wide.

Sorrento is nice, but go to Capriby Yahoo | 2005-06-03 18:17:11 |

Sorrento is gorgeous... we took the ferry (il traghetto) to Capri and spend the day on the beach, it was seriously the best day of my life. We felt like jet-setting Italian royalty. And the best part is, we got to experience the high life without having to pay a lot of money... only the fare for the ferry and an unfortunately overpriced lunch at an outdoor cafe. Just don't miss the last boat back to Sorrento at the end of the day... then you'll have to pay for a hotel room!
