Overview
It is fitting that the 'Athens of the South' is home to the world's only full-size replica of the ancient Parthenon. Forty-six Doric columns encircle the building. The largest bronze doors in the world, weighing 7.5 tons each, stand at the east and west entrances. Featured is Athena Parthenos, the tallest indoor sculpture in the Western world. Sculptures and friezes are modeled from Elgin Marbles at the British Museum in London. There are also four art galleries. While the prices are reasonable, you can avail discounts for groups of ten or more while reservation. Children under the age of four get free entry.the Parthenon is a BEAUTIFULL sightsei`r, and it is just the best thing for families, roadtrips, limited edition must! this is the best thing that you wil sea in Tennisee... no lie!
Amazing. Take the time to stroll thru the park too. Make sure your camera batteries are charged.
Not only is the outside amazing, but the artwork inside is simply breathtaking. Best of all, it's only $5 and takes an hour give or take to walk through. My jaw dropped when I saw the Athena statue. No words can describe it. Everything from the 7.5 ton bronze doors to the oil paintings that were so detailed they looked like photos..was just fantastic. It borders Centennial Park, so there's plenty of other things to do there as well. I'd also come back at night and see it when it's lit up..gorgeous! Very well worth it..just go..you won't be sorry!
coooooooooooool!!!! I had a fantastic time! i like the atmosphere! It was totally awesome!!! The building itself is totally amazing. But when you go in side you are like wow! and you are speechless for a couple of days then people cant get you to shut up about it. You just go on and on and they are like stop already. So if i were you i would totally go!
Although it does not take a really long time to see, the artistry in this place is amazing. They also had an art gallery in the lower level that we really enjoyed. We visited there probably about 8 years ago or so and we still talk about it. It is well worth the time to visit.
This place is truly a buried treasure in Nashville. Be sure you get out and discover it! The atmosphere is wonderful; it borders the Centennial Park, so make a day of it and bring a picnic lunch. Be sure to bring bread to feed the ducks for the nearby pond. Once inside, the staff and docents are very knowledgable about Greek Mythology and the art work. I will say that the higher ranked staff members aren't so willing to talk, but i suppose they're busy. The crowd is always nice, but avoid Sat because that's the busier day in regards to parking.
The Parthenon in Nashville, TN is an amazing attraction. Even if you have visited the ancient original in Greece it is worth visiting to enjoy the beautifully landscaped gardens and lawns that surround the outside. In addition, an impressive art museum awaits visitors as part of the very affordable admission of only $5.00 ($2.50 for children and seniors). I had no prior knowledge of the Parthenon or Greek mythology before visiting. Inside is a magnificent full-scale replica of the goddess Athena. Interesting displays convey facts and information about the original Parthenon in Greece, mythology, and how a full-scale replica came to be built in Nashville. This attraction is both entertaining and informative. The amount of information presented is not overwhelming. Equally interesting is the small art museum also located inside. Taken from the private collection of a generous donor, the main gallery is a collection of less than 70 paintings. Wide-ranging in style, the art gallery is impressive considering the relatively small size of the collection. A small gift shop sells quality merchandise. Be sure to allow time to stroll around the small pond and flower gardens outside. Allow 1-2 hours for your visit.
LOVELY ARCITECTURE, SMALL BUT GREAT PLACE TO SPEND A COUPLE OF HOURS WANDERING AROUND THE ART GALLERY, THEN REST BY THE POND AND GARDENS. MIGHT BE AN IDEA TO TAKE A PICNIC AND OUTDOOR ENTERTAINMENT TO ENJOY THE GROUNDS
This place is awesome. The 44 foot gold statue of Athena is breathtaking. It is truly inspirational. You will feel like you have stepped back in time. The Parthenon is like a piece of the past transported into the present.
Last year was the first and only time I have been to the Parthenon. As i walked across the field towards the parthenon you just don't get a grasp as to how big it really is. Letting you mind wonder abit, you can see what it must've been like for the ancients in Greece. It truly is a beautiful thing to see. Inside viewing Athena and Nike is just a beautiful thing. I don't know how else to describe it, except for being breathless. Again, while therre just try to put yourself in the mind of the ancients and view it from thier perspective, it makes it even more a thing of beauty. About the only thing I didn't care much for was the art museum. Just didn't think it fitted in with the rest of the theme of the building and the statues
