We were pleasantly surprised on our visit to Ardastra Gardens. You can walk around and take your time, not like other places we saw where you were rushed through the exibits on a tour. The Dancing Flamingos were great and also you can feed the birds in an enclosed exibit. They eat thin slices of apples you hold in your hand. The birds land on your hand and stay to eat the apple slices. The kids loved it! Again, a must see.
On a recent Disney cruise, my dad and I (I was twelve years old at the time) spent a wonderful afternoon at Ardastra Gardens and Zoo in Nassau. It cost $22.50 for one adult and one child ticket, and was well worth the admission fee. It was definitely the highlight of our day on the island. The lush tropical jungle setting enchanted and intrigued us, and the whole zoo, though small, was cute, clean, and very well-done. The exotic animals were amazing (we loved the Bahama parrots, the capuchin monkeys, and the kissing cockatoos), and we could tell that the staff had worked very hard to make the animals happy. The lory parrot feeding and the marching flamingos are definitely not to be missed. At one point, I had 4 lorikeets (lory parakeets) eating apples out of my hand! The flamingos are very entertaining. I was selected to stand in the little arena with the flamingos-be sure you volunteer for this magical part of the show. Exotic, charming, and a lot of fun for people of all ages, this amazing Bahamian cultural experience takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours to be fully enjoyed, and is definitely NOT to be missed. I would rank this as the best attraction in the city of Nassau. If you only have time for one activity in Nassau, this is it.
This was a nice tour. You got to hold pieces of apples in your hands, and these tiny parrots will sit in your hands and eat. The highlight was the "Flamingo Parade", you have to see that.
I enjoyed my visit to the gardens with their attractive plantings and the birds and animals. The display of the flamingos was interesting. I enjoyed going into the Lorry cage with their large flock of bright red and green and blue lorries with their metallic colurs. They enjoyed the apple slices and their claws were trimed so that they did not hurt when they landed on you. My parrots at home are bigger and have sharper claws. The other bird and animal exhibits were what I expected and I was not disappointed in the displays.
small and expensive for what it was. Color was kinda blah and hospitality of attendants was poor and left something to be desired. Compared to other attractions and friendly local people, I would do something else.
While I enjoyed by time strolling along through the winding paths and loving the flora and fauna, I was a little disappointed in the size of the Gardens and the way the limited variety of animals are contained. You will love the flamingo show--outstanding! The people there are friendly and helpful. Just don't expect to be there for a full afternoon or morning. I would visit the place again.
The experience at Ardastra Gardens, Nassau was great... the Flamingo shows is incredibly funny, the staff is very friendly and they let you be in touch with the animals there. Everything feels so natural, like you belong there.
Ardastra, is a great small zoo featuring up-close encounters with assorted types of animals. This is a perfect time to grab your digital camera and take shots of very interesting creatures, merely feet away from you. There are numerous plant species on display and the flowers are very well maintained. Seeing the pigs, peacocks, and macaws roam freely gave me a chance at snapping some great photos for my walls and to show family. I highly recommend visiting, but PLEASE pay close attention to the signs. They will tell you that these are WILD animals and they do bite, scratch, etc. Do not let your small kids idle about unsupervised.
it is so fun!!!! my sisters and brothers said ''dalia when we coming back here''i said 'as soon as possible.'' the flamingo show was great and feeding the parrots. out of adventure learning centre and ardastra gardens adastra gardens win
Nice gardens and zoo for both young and old. Great flamingo show. Have fun feeding the parrots. They'll sit on your hand and eat apples provided by the zoo. See unusual black swans and other animals not often seen in other zoos.
