Overview

A nine-mile-long trail runs around much of Nevis about 1,000 feet above sea level, called the Upper Round Road. Built in the 1600's, this trail was built to provide access to the many sugar plantations and communities on the island. In recent years, the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society has undertaken the task of developing the trail, which is used for hiking, nature walks, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The trail can be accessed at various points on the island and maps are available at the tourist board in Charlestown, or at hotels. There are three sections, and the whole route connects the Golden Rock Hotel on the windward side of the island with the Nisbet Plantation Beach Club on the northern tip. It's a wonderful place to discover the tropical flora and fauna of Nevis and to catch a glimpse of the green vervet monkeys.
