Overview
Every island has its version of the quintessential Caribbean beach shack. On Nevis, it's Sunshine's. Named for its owner, whose business sense has helped him establish this popular and fun restaurant, the bar sits right on the beach, conveniently next to the Four Seasons Resort. The bar is rustic, charming, hand-made and has recently been rebuilt for the fourth time since Hurricane Lenny. Right on the sand, Sunshine serves delicious grilled meals, including fish, lobster and chicken, in a simple style.Sunshine's Bar is the ultimate in Caribbean beach bar experiences. Having personally seen the bar re-built many times after being 'smashed up' by numerous hurricanes, I have watched it develop and grow, yet still maintain it's simplistic charm and warmth. With sand for floor, it displays colourful flags from various nations and support groups. What few walls exist are covered in license plates from far away locales and also photos of customers and staff ranging from the "average joe" to the "rich and famous". the beauty of Sunshine's it that very customer is treated as a friend. The owner, Sunshine, is a true gem. He is warm, friendly and makes certain his guests are treated as if they are family. Prices are very reasonable; about $2 US for a beer, $3 or so for a mixed drink. Beware of a wonderful blend called "the killer bee". They go down 'oh so smooth', but after two or three watch out!!! Just make certain your friends don't have their camerasaimed your direction! The food may seem simple, yet the tastes are beyond belief. They also are well worth the price. He offers a lobster lunch for about $20 US. A word of warning: watch out for the beach dogs or your plate will be gone! When visiting Nevis, Sunshine's is a must. It's more than worth the ferry ride from St. Kitts for a delightful day trip experience.
