This museum, founded in 1832, and more than 100,000 pieces in its permanent collection, is the oldest university art museum in the country. The gallery offers an excellent overview of art history, ranging from ancient to modern. There is an exquisite collection of American paintings, and an extensive display of 20th century European paintings. Classic objects from ancient Egypt and the Middle East, and treasures from the South Pacific and Far East are also on display. Guided tours, lectures, family programs and concerts are all ongoing. Check website for seasonal hours. Admission is free.

Personally, I am in love with the Yale Art Gallery. I believe that it's the perfect place to bring anyone who is an artist, or has any interest in art. The gallery has a great deal of interesting pieces that cover a wide variety of different medias, and perspectives.Plus, this gallery is FREE and welcomes the community. I am in love with this gallery and encourage anyone who is interested in art to go.

A MUST SEE in New HAvenby Yahoo | 2007-08-26 17:33:55 |

Make sure you stop by here on your visit to New Haven. It's location is great, the art is arranged well. Best of all you can ask at the desk for a headset. They are FREE and provide great info about selected pieces in the museum. I enjoyed them and so did my 16 year old niece. It made us look closer at both these specific pieces and other pieces in the museum.

Often Overlookedby Yahoo | 2005-09-27 03:18:15 |

If you are looking for a large art gallery with masterpieces from all over the world, your looking in the wrong spot. If you are looking for a nice relaxing walk around a calming enviroment, with some decent art work to look at, this is the place. Don't plan on spending your day at the gallery, but thats ok, since New Haven has a lot of other stuff you can do afterwards.
