Aquarium Of The Americas is a world-class aquarium with state-of-the-art exhibits, allowing visitors young and old to experience underwater nature first hand. Visitors immerse themselves in the major marine and submarine habitats of North and South America, including the Caribbean Sea and the Amazon Rainforest. The aquarium also features thousands of fish, reptiles, and birds native to these habitats.Open Hours
Tu to Su from 10:00 AM to 05:00 PMThe Aquarium is beautiful place to visit and was not damaged by the hurricanes. One can spend the day in aquatic bliss. You can take in a movie at the Imax. Also, can enjoy a fabulous boat ride to Audobon park to see all the animals cause day all axed for you at the zoo...IF you were here you would know that's from a popular Mardi gras song here...It makes for a fun day but make sure what the temperature is going to be
As a native of the area I moved away due to my going into the military, but it doesn't stop me from visiting and since I have children now I educate them on New Orleans rich history. They love the aquarium and insist on visiting every time.
Great exhibits and a welcome break from the heat. For kids, there is a sting ray touch tank and a nurse shark touch tank.
I live in Lafayette and we visit every so often. I never realized how expansive the exbits are until we visted one in California. The entire exhibit would fit comfortably in my house! The Aquarium of the Americas is the kinda place you could loose yourself in for hours...
I've read it somewhere, it's A place to go, but not THE place to go.. with such the small building you can see from outside, you wouldn't see much in there. Probably because I'm from California, but this place is small to me. 1-2 hours at most you'll be out of there. I just also checked out their new place the Audubon Insectarium. very disappointed. don't expect to see a lot of live insects in there.
This place could take up over two hours of your time easily if you indulged in all the informative ways the exhibits were displayed; plenty of guides with lots of information also; interaction with some species which appeal to children of all ages!
We loved everything about it. It was so educational and hands on my son eyes were not big enough to see it all.I have 4 kids in all and only 1 had the chance to experience this but when my son came back and told the others and they saw our photos of the trip, they want to visit also. At one point I think that I was more excited han he was because I have never seen penguins and jellyfish in real life! It is an experience he and I will never forget and I can't wait to take the rest of my kids.
Very worth the money and time...closed Mondays though..they have an imax and zoo combo for $28 to see all 3...not too busy during the week!
a great place for kids in N.O. but only a short walk from the heart of N.O., the french quarter. if your with your kids take a carage ride too... its full of history about the city!
several habitats were closed and the aquarium was dissapointingly small for the 17.95 ticket price. penguin display was cute and the petting area was nice
Even though Hurricane Katrina wipped out the majority of the fish exhibited in the Aquarium, they've managed to rebuild it in such a manner that it seems almost although nothing has changed.
