The Sisters of Ursula established Catholic schools for African-American and Native American girls and set up the first orphanage in Louisiana. The convent is now home to Catholic archives dating back to 1718. It is the oldest building on record in New Orleans and the entire Mississippi Valley. It sits across from another historic site, the Beauregard-Keyes House, and is part of the Archbishop Antoine Blanc Memorial. It is open for self guided tours. Admission for adults is USD5, seniors USD4, students USD2, free for children under 8.
This is one of the stops on The Haunted New Orleans Vampire tour! Iv lived right outside of New Orleans on the westbank my whole life and got to go on the tour with a friend for the first time recently. We loved it so much that less than a week later we did it again!! All though all of the stories were very interesting and strange, I found this place to have most intriguing story on the tour. #1 If there is nothing in the attic why not allow anyone into it?? #2 Also if there's nothing there why nail it shut with over 1,000 blessed nails?? While on the tour our guide actually told us that about 2 weeks before Katrina hit he was out there doing his tour, as he tuned towards the convent he noticed the window all the way on the lefts, left shutter wasn't just open..it was COMPLETELY GONE!! This freaked him out so he quickly moved his tour along and the next night he saw that from the inside with was bricked up. He counted the days, it took them 9 days to fix the shutter because they actually had to wait for a priest to fly in from Rome to bless the nails!! So if there is nothing hidden in the attic why the over kill to make sure no one sees whats actually in it??? Also as they tell you on the tour in the 17 & 1800's you didn't put shutter on your attic windows because you could actually DIE from the heat because there was no electricity there for no A/C. And if you look at the other buildings around built about the same time, none of them have shutters on the attic window. As our tour guide said, "Now the shutters could have been something added to the building later on down the line, however Iv seen a drawing of this convent dated to around when it as built and it was drawn with shutters." Which leads him and myself to believe it was built with the shutters. This definitely an very intriguing and interesting place full of mystery.
The vibes i felt there left quite an impression, i know there are/were vampires living in that attic. What other reason would there be to nail the shutters so much and noone but the Pope himself is allowed access to the third floor. As a living vampire i like to think theyre still there, and i hope to revisit NOLA this summer, maybe ill be able to see something i couldnt before
I know what's truely in the attic they won't leet anyone see.Who would nail 100 blessed nails in the shutters who do they think there fooling lol
This was a quiet respite in the center of a city known for its music and energy. I suggest you visit the herb gardens and view the museum for an authentic sampling of historic New Orleans.
