Overview

This bar has been in existence for 120 years now, so it is very apparent that it survived such minor irritations as Prohibition! For most of its lifetime, P.J.'s has been a male preserve, but its attempts to modernize mean that you can now spot the occasional woman; however, it is safe to say that the bar is still a fairly masculine place. Delicious sandwiches and burgers, along with the odd steak make up the menu, and go great with the whiskeys and beers available here.

Great NY Feel and Shelter From Snowby Yahoo | 2007-03-17 01:53:50 |

Popped in for food, warmth, and shelter from a snowstorm. Atmosphere staff and menu fit the bill in what is restaurant and bar with neighborhood New York feel. Food for everyone - burgers to write home about. Good beer selection and desert too. Freindly spirit in the staff, just missed delivery of right order for one in my party. Didn't mind they replaced no questions asked.

This quaint "more than just a burger joint" is in a great brick building all by itself in the middle of midtown. Not only do they serve one of the best burgers I've ever had, but they have a great selection of other american foods and beverages at reasonable prices. A favorite for locals and celebrities alike.

Memoriesby Yahoo | 2004-12-03 23:54:07 |

When I lived at 5 Tudor City Place (Windsor Tower) in 1957 and 1958 I spent a lot of evenings at PJ's enjoying their burgers and beer. In fact the night before (July 14, 1958) I was inducted into the US Army I had a lovely time with a bunch of guys and a beautiful tanned girl in a baby blue dress. What a night. It's a wonder I made it to the induction center downtown in the morning, and than shortly after, a lovely flight to the DMZ in Korea. I would rather have missed that experience and spent my 13 months tour of duty at PJ's. What a fantastic ambiance; sawdust on the floor, burger stand at the entrance on the right hand side, bar on the left and a dining room at the back with a chalk board menu. I am now 66 but it seems like yesterday, and I sure miss all that. Good luck to the new owners. You made the right decision and you're on a winning ticket.
