Yes, they do singby Yahoo | 2006-02-03 16:50:48 |

A waitstaff of ten sing showtunes in a nonstop performance. They sing like like greyhounds run: effortlessly and perfectly. Very entertaining. Don't come here for health food or quiet conversation. Done in a loopy 50's diner style with ketchup bottles on small Formica tables. Mac and cheese, chicken quasidilla, two diet Pepsis and ice cream: $31.80. Bring ones to tip the singers if you wish to do so. We stayed for two hours.

This diner is amazing! Not only is the diner atmosphere and music exciting, but the food is great and the waitstaff are some of the most talented singers I have seen in a very long time. If you want to have a good dinner in a fun and exciting atmosphere, go here. As for the negative review below, I think that some people just don't like to be entertained. I thought the place was Johnny Rockets * 1000 and simply incredible!

the greatest place everby Yahoo | 2004-12-11 15:39:09 |

u walk in and u see everyone in poddle skirts. and u hear music everywhere. the milk shakes and egg creams and everything was so good. they had every kid of shake or drink that u could believe.u can request songs and they will sing they. now it is not just so crumy singing it was amazing singing. it was my birthday so i requested a song and she told me and my frined to come up there and we sang it with her. then she took me outside on the streets and had everyone sing happy birthday to me. i was so cool. this dinner is a great place to go after a broadway show or for dinner. the music that they had was oldies it was on of the best days of my life. u shal go the and check it out. they will also come over to u and sing to u. i was so so so fun.

A Freaking Nightmare....by Yahoo | 2004-11-30 15:27:40 |

Feel like being ignored by a bunch of part-time actors? Like sitting in a cramped booth listening to a bunch of bored-looking food runners chatter away aimlessly in Spanish? Like music so loud that you have to shout at your dinner companions? Then Ellen's is your place, my friend. I went to this nightmarish cattle call for Thanksgiving dinner last week. I made reservations ahead of time at the ungodly hour of 5:30 pm, thinking that an early dinner would mean we could get in and out of there quickly. The waiter took our drink order and was never seen again (except when it was his turn to sing, of course.) We waited for an hour and still had no food (we ordered sandwiches), and finally my husband had to chase our waiter down and scream at him so we could get fed. As we looked around, we realized that people were actually getting up and LEAVING because they had been waiting so long without any service. Oh---and by the time our food DID arrive, it was stone cold. We were too damned hungry to send it back, though, so we ate it anyway. We would have been better off going to a hot dog stand on the corner. At least we could have had a conversation. The street corner in midtown isn't nearly as loud as a tiny restaurnt full of crooning, warbling wanna-be Broadway stars. When we compalined to the manager, he threw his hands up and said, "Well, you know, these kids work really hard. They have to wait tables AND sing." Hmmm, seems to me that it would be better to do one thing well (namely, SERVE THE FOOD) rather than do two things badly (sing a bunch of songs to pissed-off diners who really just want their dinner, not another god-forsaken "special request" from the Grease! soundtrack.) But what do I know? I'm not a big-city restaurant manager, just an ordinary citizen who expects a sandwich to be slapped together in under an hour. We ended up getting free dessert and coffee out of the manager, but he couldn't give us what we really wanted---those two hours of our lives that were wasted in their hare-brained operation.

Food is good, and the atmosphere is the best! Friendly and talented waitstaff make this a stop for us whenever we are in the city. We have never had a bad experience at this place. It is always fun to take new people into the diner. My favorite booth is the Elvis themed. Look forward to being there again soon.
