Overview

The Upper West Side is home to a number of gourmet marketplaces, but perhaps none as impressive as this one. It is hard to walk by Zabar's without stopping in to purchase some of their top quality, reasonably priced delicacies. Nobody does it better when it comes to olives, cheese, smoked salmon, whitefish and other New York essentials. It can get unbearably crowded however, and during some Jewish holidays you might even have to wait on line to get into the store.

    worth a tripby Yahoo | 2008-03-15 15:53:35 |

I love Zabar's. The apricot strudel alone is worth the trip! A visit to Zabar's is at the top of our list when we visit NYC.

    Overcooked, overratedby Yahoo | 2005-02-12 01:16:56 |

This place is rather famous and came highly recommended by a Connecticut couple I knew. It took a bit of maneuvering to get to the place and inside, it was rather shoddy with some of the prices avg for NYC but the fresh rugelachs and latkes were burnt and broken and regularly priced. A native New Yorker told me about th relative's place (maybe the 1100 block) on Third St., not far from the Met Museum of Art...Far better, albeit a bit pricey, the quality was high, two floors of wonderfulness and the prepped stuff for take away dinner to the Park was delicious. I just found Zabar's far too overrated as did this New Yorker who sniffed at the mere mention thereof.
