Overview
New York's Chinatown is a cultural haven full of ancient and exotic traditions, and a huge amount of restaurants. This bustling and crowded neighborhood is home to over half of the city's Chinese population. In the grocery stores and fruit stands, you will find many food items available nowhere else in the city - from exotic fruit and vegetables to live snails and dried shrimp. Excellent Thai, Vietnamese and Korean restaurants have joined the mix. Every lunar new year, the street are filled with the hubbub of the Chinatown Chinese New Year Parade.Well ovrerall i would think that anyone that visits Chinatown in manhatten wuold have a great experience, overall. There are so many restaurants that offer elegant food, that you cant find in other areas of manhattan. Some of the food may sound wierd, but its all good. Grocery shopping is super here. Fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, and poultry are very fresh. The fish is the freshest. Live and fresh, or early in the morning- fresh from the sea! There are downsides tho. There is garbage everywhere, on the streets waiting to be thrown away. The garbage pickup there is at night, so at around dusk, the streets are filled with bags of garbage and carboards. Overall i really like it! and i think you may like it too!
It's fantastic! But it is overload for those with ADD!! There is so much everywhere....so many things to buy and haggle on! Taking the subway right to Canal is the best way to get there (I believe it's the 6 that will get you there). It dumps you right off to start your shopping!!!!!
I would not recommend Chinatown to anyone. There were huge piles of garbage lining the streets and the whole vibe of the place was not cool. It is actually the only place that I saw in NYC that I would NOT recommend. Skip this part.
Walking around chinatown is like a mini hong kong. I went to hong kong before and chinatown has that same atmosphere, but on a much smaller scale. it is exciting, lots of great restaurants and you can find just about anything you want (jewelry, handbags, name brand clothes, shoes, souvenirs, toys, electronics, watches, accessories, special teas and herbs, dvds, cds, and more). There are bakeries with bubble tea of all kinds. Tons of people walk the streets and it is next to Little Italy and Soho. It adds to the whole New York experience. And it is the oldest Chinatown in America. The people are no different than the people in Hong Kong. If you visit New York City without going to Chinatown, then you are not experiencing the whole thing.
this place isnt that bad, the smell is bearable. i dont see what so bad about it cause there is A LOT of people there so it is bound to be really dirty but common it is NYC, i love chinatown but traveling there is HECTIC
Everyone should visit this Chinatown and see how people scrimp and save and work to get by. Shopping will not save America from stagflation. Hard work, high saving, mutual support and belief in the future might. See these virtues in action around Canal Street and contemplate on the 1,500,000,000 countrymen back home who have known little but hard work and subjection to a greater authority.
Chinatown is such a unique experience that you just cannot miss. Me and my friends spent like an entire day there because there was just so much to see. Its just a 10-15 minute subway ride from times square and is so worth the time and money. So many great products and you can bring them down on price which is even better.
We got turtle's here, Do not buy turtle's. They die. But other than that. The different Culture was great. Real great people. Some of them sing outside their shops. Busy, Bustling community. Something everyone in the city should see. Very interesting. See fresh duck hung up. All of it was great
Ohhh it is so amazing, interesting, beautiful, different, and nice¡¡¡ I really enjoy buying at least¡¡ it's is a great place to visit, when you don't have a great budget...I enjoyed really much. Please try Pekin Duck.
This was the absolute best thing in New York. Terrific restaurants and shops and tons of bargains on fake prada and gucci. If you don't see this you haven't seen New York. It is very close to Soho and the Italian district too.
