Overview

Built in 1913, Grand Central Terminal is impressive even to New Yorkers, particularly the massive main hall with its cathedral-like vaulted ceiling. The building s beautiful with chic new shops and a food court lending an air of urban charm. Not an easy feat for a railway station that is filled with a half million commuters each week. The bar at Michael Jordan's The Steak House overlooks the busy terminal. If you crave shellfish, dine at the legendary Oyster Bar. The Vanderbilt Hall within the station is also the site of numerous cultural events, so check out the website for the latest in the station's support of artistic endeavors. The station services outlying suburbs via the Metro-North Commuter Railroad.

Very cool - reminds you of another eraby Yahoo | 2009-10-09 21:16:58 |

Also reminds me of Victoria Station a little bit in London. Love the crowds, the Dining Court, the market, and the architecture. Don't forget to go outside and stand across the street for a photo of the golden clock at the top of the builidng.

    Grand Central Secretsby Yahoo | 2008-06-01 10:15:46 |

I would recommend a visit to Grand Central. It is free, unless you wish to eat or travel. Free tours are available Wednesdays at 12:30pm at the Information Booth. A couple of secrets to look out for... 1. Look up at the amazing ceiling in the main hall and find the brick that they left as it was before the restoration - huge before and after contrast – a clue, it is above Michael Jordan's Steakhouse. 2. Find your way down to the Lower Concourse and into the food court area. There is a place nearby with a arched ceilings. It is a whispering wall (such as the whispering gallery in St. Paul's Cathedral, London). One person can stand one side of this area and talk quietly and the other person can hear every word that person is saying, even though they are right over the other sides from each other.

    the best place everby Yahoo | 2007-11-16 18:33:49 |

grand central station is wonderful and beautiful, the entire city is that way if i think the word "amazing" would come to mind! the people, the buildings so tall you almost fall backward trying to look at them, the food, the sights, like i said, "amazing!

    Marbulous HAHAHAby Yahoo | 2007-11-10 09:53:16 |

All Marble. The constellation's on the ceiling were great. Huge Huge spacious. And the marble made it great. We took a train into the Station. And had a blast all the way. People making out in subway but. In the actual Terminal. It was just ordinary New Yorker's Rushing to Work or wherever they needed to go. The style of this building is something everyone should see.

    Stunning Architectureby Yahoo | 2007-07-19 17:35:52 |

I recently visited the USA for the first time and went with my nephew to New York via Grand Central. Grand Central was easily the most beautiful thing I saw that day. It's beauty is jaw-dropping. I am so glad it was saved from the bulldozers.

    great food!by Yahoo | 2007-01-08 17:04:54 |

This place is absolutely beautiful. There are a TON of places to eat, it's almost like a mall food court, but with REALLY GOOD FOOD. Very clean and busy, but not too busy. It has a good atmosphere. Great place to go even if you're not taking a train anywhere.

    A interesting train rideby Yahoo | 2005-12-10 02:13:44 |

This was a interesting train ride. Yes, it's a famous spot in the city, but it was the most decent. There was a few things that was alittle annoying. There was a guy that kept singing, and askin' for money. LOL, well, that WAS pretty funny. Overall, this IS a station to travel.

    Well worth a visitby Yahoo | 2005-08-10 16:23:46 |

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt last September so we probably visited the terminal about 10 times. It's a great place to eat and shop.
