Overview
Joyce Gold, an author and instructor of New York City history, leads vivid and detailed walking tours of the city that go above and beyond the usual. Tours include interesting subjects such as The Vital Heart Of Harlem: Its Spirit And Substance, Macabre Greenwich Village, East Village Culture And Counter-Culture and More Teeming Than Bombay: The Old Jewish Lower East Side. Check the Web site for current tours, timing and the places. Private tours are also available. Tours last from two to two and a half hours. The tour for fun, in-depth historyBest two hours I spent in NYC
The tours are incredibly thorough; there doesn't seem to be anything Joyce doesn't know! A fun way to garner a knowledge of the depth of NYC's history--for locals (like me) and tourists alike. I especially enjoyed the tour of Lower Manhattan, covering the early Dutch and British periods. The tours are a steal. If you don't love Joyce, you don't love New York.
Encyclopedic knowledge of NYC delivered in an informative and entertaining way. I took the Macabre Tour from Washington Park. Fascinating and wonderful. Joyce carries speakers so the size of the group doesn't mean you can't hear. I will definately take another tour next time I'm in the city.
