Overview

Sitting in all its splendor on Fifth Avenue, the New York Public Library stands guarded by its two famous lions, Patience and Fortitude. For researchers, the library is a treasure. Its many halls contain millions of volumes, tens of thousands of current periodicals and a large staff to help. Conceived in 1897, the library did not open its doors until 1911. It is architecturally one of New York's classics, both inside and out. There are also free art exhibits shown inside.

As I do genealogy, the NY Public Library is about the best place for information. Of course, it is also free of charge and maintains it's records wonderfully. A beautiful building and comfortable surroundings in hectic New York. I love the place.......

      What a Beautiful place!by Yahoo | 2005-07-26 18:48:45 |

For something a little different to do, The NY public library was very neat. the architecture is simply beautiful, and going inside make you feel like you've stepped back in time, with the old style library desks and stone everywhere. Im not usually the type to see museums and such when traveling, but we were in NY for 4 days, and this was really a great place to see. Quite grand front steps as well. check to see when their open, We tried to see it one other time we were in NY and they were closed.
