This is a great place to wander around aimlessly with a friend or group on the weekend. It can get a bit crowded but this is a very small nuissance if even that. There are 3 floors of stores in the main mall and even before you reach inside, there are many stores and stands selling various nick nacks.. all are wonderful. Everytime I go I alwwayyss visit the smoothie stand on the 3rd floor to the right of the escalator. So good. More than likely if you go on a weekend there will be at least 2 street peformers that do some amazing things that are cool to watch especially while waiting for a table at the outside restuarants. Also, during the spring/summer months you can buy tickets for the speedboat and take a fun, fast, and wet cruise around the harbor. The list goes on... just know you will absolutely have a wonderful time. By the way, this is New York guys. If you come, take the train to Fulton Street and walk straight down to the Seaport. Its the best way to arrive. Traveling by car is crazy talk. Yes, parking hourly rates ARE crazy, so why not concentrate more on exploring at a lesiurely pace rather than how much money your bill is racking up. Plus with all the mall has to offer, you will be happy that you have the extra cash in pocket.

One of the nice things about South Street seaport is that you can see a lot of New York in one place without spending a lot of money. You don't need to take a car, you can take the subway and get off at Fulton Street. Then you can walk to the port and when you get to the mall go upstairs where you can sit on the deck and enjoy a relaxing view of the bridges over the east river. You can also eat there or shop at the mall. If it is a Friday you can go to the South Street Seaport museum for free and sometimes - especially during the summer months there are free concerts as well. You can also go for a walk to Wall Street, enjoy its nice architecture and then walk to the South Ferry and take the Ferry to Staten Island which is also free and allows you to relax and take beautiful pictures of the Statue of Liberty. You can do all of this for free and in about three hours.

its an overpriced shopping mall on a pier with no place to park unless you want to pay $30. There is no need whatsoever for even tourists to go here

I love southstreet because it is a little bit calmer than all the bustle of the city. The stores are great and I will always rememeber going there when I was little and shopping. Great place for tourists or seasoned New Yorkers!

It is a lot of fun! Great views and great places to eat. They also have Bodies... the exhibition down there. It was a must see!! I can't wait to go again soon!!!

The Seaport is an amazing place, filled in the summer months with street performers and great shops. The resturants offer the best seafood in town. I worked at the south Street Seaport for most of my 20's and I enjoyed every new face I met. Growing up only three quarters of a mile from the Seaport we were reminded of the Fulton Fish market that is today not longer there. The Seaport is a bit of heaven in the City with shows and wonderful people. go visit you'll surely love it.

Oh how I really miss this place. I'm originally from Brooklyn,NY but now I live in Virginia. I would go to this place at least once a week during the spring and summer months. I just love the atmosphere and the crowds, the places to eat and the seaport party boat rides. Norfolk Waterside cannot does not have anything on South Street Seaport.

It's very charming and easy to get taxis from - a plus. Restaurants are great and you can easily walk across the Brooklyn Bridge or get a water taxi from Pier 17. The only bad things are it's noisy at night (until they move the Fish Market) and it does reek of fish!

This might be one of the best places to shop during the holiday season. Smaller crowds, great selections and "hands down", the best Santa in the City and maybe best of all, The Singing Christmas Tree. You can keep Rockerfeller Center, for my money, this is the best place to get into the holiday spirit.

Very cool place to go on summer, great outdoor eating, good shrimp, family place, great view of the docks.
