Overview
Towering 236 meters (775 feet) above the Falls, this tower is so high and close to the border, it needed special permission from both Canadian and U.S. authorities to be built. It has three glass-encased elevators that bring you to a top-floor observation deck, two restaurants; the Revolving Dining Room and the Summit Suite Dining Room; a shopping center and a large amusement arcade. You can see up to 100 kilometers (80 miles) from the observation deck. This was actually the worst buffet I have ever been to. And I am easy to please as far as buffets go. I like Old Country Buffet it that helps. Pay to take the ride to the top but eat somewhere else. We had lunch at Shoeless Joe's down the street the next day, it was great. Also had lunch at the the CN Tower in Toronto the 3 days later. Great view and great food. The other writer was correct. I had 5 starches and no meat. Chicken was small and really didn't look like chicken. Server was nice.
I will not try their restaurant and dine again. Poor fine dining experience. We had reservations and upon arrival we ordered appetizers and asked her to wait for entree. The server mentioned that we should order entree else she will charge $11.95/person (me and my date) on top of our bill for being there. She never came to check how we were doing. Tables are arrange so close when she changed table cloth she remove dust towards are table with our food on table. Certainly not a pleasant experience for paying good price for a fine dinning meals and especially on vacation. Can't say if this happens to everyone but still if someone have other options for food try it!!
I cannot write about the dining experience, because it was too overpriced for our group. I would however, recommend it for taking photos or videos from another vantage point. I used a coupon for a small amt off the admission price and rode up alone, while my adult kids were downstairs in the gameroom playing pool. I probably wouldn't need to do it again though, once you have seen it, it doesn't change much. It is too bad though, that the photos the professionals take of you at the tower with various backgrounds, cannot be ordered online. ( some kind of law they said.) Who has extra money to blow on these overpriced photo enlargements...? They are nice but too pricey for a simple enlargement.
We went to the Skylon Tower for the lunch buffet on a Saturday in September. It was the worst buffet I have been to. It is very over priced for the amount of food they have on buffet. It consisted of dried up eggs, that looked like they sat there all morning. Only 2 pancakes in pan. No eggs benedict pan was empty. I questioned the waiter when will they fill the buffet up he stated it is coming. Twenty minutes later it came. For 29.95 all they had was starch items which are the cheapest food item. The buffet consisted of oriental noodles no vegetables on them, rice with no vegetables, pasta with speghetti sause on, very small pieces of chicken, roast beef, bacon & sausage, mixed vegetables and small roasted potatoes. Plus things where also cold. The salad bar part was okay if you wanted to eat cold items for $29.95 which I can do at home. The dessert bar was okay. I have been to the best buffets and this is not one of them. Don't waste your money to eat here. Go to the casino's and eat. Much better selection and price is right. I spoke to the manager and told him that this buffet was overpriced and nothing on the buffet. We did get a reduction on our bill. The only thing good about this is the view of the falls and that is why you are paying the big money to eat at this buffet.
We were treated like cattle, like all the others around us. Restaurant is crowded, food is average, waiters are rude and officious. We visited the observation deck, which has MUCH better views for pictures, etc. I'd actually pay the $11 for the observation deck and eat better food elsewhere for less.
We did not eat the dinning room but the buffet. The view is great, our table was by the window and the falls looked fantastic. The food however was one of the nastiest food we had; some of it I think was rotten. If you want to go here to eat, this is not the place to do it, just go for the attraction. Drinks are not included in the price of the buffet, and i think they are between $3-5 each and they are very small. I will not eat here not even for 1/2 the price. If you want to see the falls from above, is better if you pay the entrance to the tower only.
Loved it, must see. A great way to view both falls, and the area. Totally awesome. We had the buffet in the top restaurant. The food was great too. A bit pricey, but worth it.
I liked the view from up there. You can see all the falls and the USA. But it was quite expensive. It is still worth it.
I love aerial views. So even though I thought the elevator was kind of overpriced, I opted to take my daughter up to the observation deck. It was a perfect, clear day and the views in all directions were fine. We like the compass points and the list of sights below (though we didn't really need to be told where the casinos were) I was unsure about spending more to eat there, but when we checked out the buffet, everyone on staff was so friendly we decided to stay. We were seated in the perfect spot- a view of both falls. The selection and quality at the buffet was lovely. I could have made an entire meal just from the chilled salmon and cucumbers in the salad section. The green salad itself was superior- lots of bell peppers and small tasty lettuces in the mix, instead of the typical bland iceberg'n'cabbage. The hot dishes and desserts I tried were tasty as well. I opted to stick with basic tea to save on drinks. The service continued to be excellent and friendly even as the room filled up. The final cost, counting the elevator tickets (which include a $10 coupon towards the meal) was still a bit expensive even for a nice lunch, but there were no lines and the view was great.
I HAVE BEEN TO THE FALLS QUITE A FEW TIMES AND NEVER HAD THE EXPERIENCE OF DINING AT THE SKYLON TOWER RESTAURANT. I FOUND IT TO BE EXCELLENT! THE VIEW IS SPECTACULAR! I HAVE PICTURES TO PROVE IT! THE WAIT STAFF WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND EFFICIENT! THE TABLES ARE VERY CLOSE TOGETHER BUT WE HAD LUCKED OUT AND SAT NEXT TO A PLEASANT COUPLE WITH GREAT CONVERSATION! WE WERE SEATED IMMEDIATELY AND I AM A GOURMET COOK AND FOUND THE FOUND TO BE DELICIOUS! JUST REMEMBER FOR THOSE WHO COMPLAIN ABOUT PRICES YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. SO YES PRICEY BUT WELL WORTH EVERY CENT!!
