Overview

Towering 236 meters (775 feet) above the Falls, this tower is so high and close to the border, it needed special permission from both Canadian and U.S. authorities to be built. It has three glass-encased elevators that bring you to a top-floor observation deck, two restaurants; the Revolving Dining Room and the Summit Suite Dining Room; a shopping center and a large amusement arcade. You can see up to 100 kilometers (80 miles) from the observation deck.

Great food and view for our anniversaryby Yahoo | 2009-09-30 21:16:14 |

My wife and I attended the dinner buffet on our 40th anniv. and we were both pleased. I have never had a dinning experience where everything I tried on the buffet was delicious. We both were very pleased with the food, view and service. I would like to return soon!

WARNING: DO NOT EAT/DRINK AT BUFFETby Yahoo | 2009-09-17 15:49:17 |

We went one night to the observation deck with a $2 coupon. We enjoyed it, although a little overpriced and the place was kind of tacky and outdated. We decided to go back the next night for the buffet with our $5 off coupons. It was one of the worst dining experiences we ever had. We were completely ripped-off. Some of the food was not there that they adverstised. It was not cooked well. Not much variety - can't say there was anything that stood out that we enjoyed. Noticed one customer has a complaint about the food and staff was very annoyed with them, not apologetic at all. They probably hear complaints all the time!! Biggest warning--Do NOT order anything other than HOT tea, coffee and maybe water. Our soda and ice tea were nearly $7.00 each!! I can understand if they don't include other drinks in the buffet price (although they should) but that is so wrong to overcharge like that. Not to mention they were small glasses and we only got one refill. Dessert looked good but was not. Not sure how anyone can make such terrible desserts. Our bill for two was over $70. Want a good view and the BEST food? Go to the Keg Restaurant at the Embassy. We spent a little more there but had steaks. You can get other cheaper items. It was good food, service, and view. It was a nice casual atmosphere. We ate at the Skylon our last night and just put a damper on the evening. There are also other restaurants right near the falls that would probably be much better.

WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!by Yahoo | 2009-07-12 02:36:34 |

My husband and I came here for dinner on our vacation. We were very disappointed. I ordered grilled pork chops and the second piece was raw, I told the waiter and he took it back along with my husband's filet which was also rare (he ordered medium well). By the time he came back, i had lost my appetite. Nice view but i would not ever come back here to eat raw pork!!!

Not Worth the Money, Time or Effortby Yahoo | 2009-06-27 01:57:08 |

The Skylon Tower is not worth the money. I made the reservation online after looking at their information; while it seemed pricey, I thought it would be a great way to celebrate my husband and son’s birthday. On the online reservation, they ask it this was for a special occasion. So I said yes, for two birthdays. (Note we had 2 nine year old boys with us.) The food was horrible. We had a better meal at the Great Wolf Lodge for a lot less money. (My husband was able to get steak at the lodge all he got at Skylon was dry roast beef.) There was no food on the buffet that the children liked – except the jell-o at the dessert table. The restaurant looks like it has not been update since the late seventies and needed a good cleaning. As for advising Skylon online that the reason for our dinner was for my husband and son’s birthday they did nothing for them – not even a slice of cake with a candle. After dinner, we went to the top to take in the view. The view was nice and the boys really enjoyed that part of the evening. The ride down – they put so many people in the elevator that our boys where pushed to the back and could not see anything. I would not recommend anyone eat there – save your money. At best just, pay to take the elevator ride and then go out somewhere nice for dinner.

Don't waste your time/$by Yahoo | 2009-05-28 14:00:45 |

When booking our trip to Niagara, it seemed like the Skylon Tower was THE place to eat-- the website made it seem like it was very posh, fancy dining. Even though we thought it seemed a bit pricey ($35 per person), we figured it'd be worth the vacation splurge. Boy, were we wrong. The first course salad was not fresh, the greens were wilted around the edges, and it was a very small portion size. Although the chicken cordon bleu was tasty, it wasn't especially exciting for such an "esteemed" restaurant. The salmon was completely overdone (for both of us who ordered it) and disappointing. As for the dessert, well, I've had way better chocolate mousse at a standard diner than here (it was more like chocolate whipped cream in a small dish). Plus the constant "upgrades" that the waitstaff offered for just "a few dollars more" became very annoying, and, considering that we already were paying $70 per couple, shouldn't the meals we received be good quality? Plus, the Skylon Tower itself is INCREDIBLY tacky. We were concerned about not being dressed enough until we walked in to the main area, which is a 3rd rate arcade. Then, on our way up to the restaurant, we passed countless tacky gift shops and were pulled in line to have a "souvenir photo" taken (which every single attraction in Niagara seems to feature). The "magnificant" views leave much to be desired, which isn't really the fault of the establishment--it's just that there's nothing to view. Beyond the falls, there is really nothing spectacular to see in the area. I'd suggest skipping this place and spending the extra $ in a hotel room that faces the falls.

Horrible food....nice view!by Yahoo | 2008-07-18 16:57:39 |

This was actually the worst buffet I have ever been to. And I am easy to please as far as buffets go. I like Old Country Buffet it that helps. Pay to take the ride to the top but eat somewhere else. We had lunch at Shoeless Joe's down the street the next day, it was great. Also had lunch at the the CN Tower in Toronto the 3 days later. Great view and great food. The other writer was correct. I had 5 starches and no meat. Chicken was small and really didn't look like chicken. Server was nice.

Will Not Dine There Again, but Good View!by Yahoo | 2008-07-14 21:24:40 |

I will not try their restaurant and dine again. Poor fine dining experience. We had reservations and upon arrival we ordered appetizers and asked her to wait for entree. The server mentioned that we should order entree else she will charge $11.95/person (me and my date) on top of our bill for being there. She never came to check how we were doing. Tables are arrange so close when she changed table cloth she remove dust towards are table with our food on table. Certainly not a pleasant experience for paying good price for a fine dinning meals and especially on vacation. Can't say if this happens to everyone but still if someone have other options for food try it!!

The view is worth the moneyby Yahoo | 2008-07-11 07:38:22 |

I cannot write about the dining experience, because it was too overpriced for our group. I would however, recommend it for taking photos or videos from another vantage point. I used a coupon for a small amt off the admission price and rode up alone, while my adult kids were downstairs in the gameroom playing pool. I probably wouldn't need to do it again though, once you have seen it, it doesn't change much. It is too bad though, that the photos the professionals take of you at the tower with various backgrounds, cannot be ordered online. ( some kind of law they said.) Who has extra money to blow on these overpriced photo enlargements...? They are nice but too pricey for a simple enlargement.

TOURIST TRAPby Yahoo | 2007-09-26 02:29:13 |

We went to the Skylon Tower for the lunch buffet on a Saturday in September. It was the worst buffet I have been to. It is very over priced for the amount of food they have on buffet. It consisted of dried up eggs, that looked like they sat there all morning. Only 2 pancakes in pan. No eggs benedict pan was empty. I questioned the waiter when will they fill the buffet up he stated it is coming. Twenty minutes later it came. For 29.95 all they had was starch items which are the cheapest food item. The buffet consisted of oriental noodles no vegetables on them, rice with no vegetables, pasta with speghetti sause on, very small pieces of chicken, roast beef, bacon & sausage, mixed vegetables and small roasted potatoes. Plus things where also cold. The salad bar part was okay if you wanted to eat cold items for $29.95 which I can do at home. The dessert bar was okay. I have been to the best buffets and this is not one of them. Don't waste your money to eat here. Go to the casino's and eat. Much better selection and price is right. I spoke to the manager and told him that this buffet was overpriced and nothing on the buffet. We did get a reduction on our bill. The only thing good about this is the view of the falls and that is why you are paying the big money to eat at this buffet.

Treated like cattleby Yahoo | 2007-09-24 21:03:39 |

We were treated like cattle, like all the others around us. Restaurant is crowded, food is average, waiters are rude and officious. We visited the observation deck, which has MUCH better views for pictures, etc. I'd actually pay the $11 for the observation deck and eat better food elsewhere for less.
