Holding the distinction of being the oldest state park in the nation, this 400-acre preserve also contains what has been called one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World; the Falls themselves. Walk along miles of trails, take in the spectacular beauty of the Three Sisters Islands, picnic on Goat Island or take part in the Cave of the Winds excursion. The visitor's center features interactive displays, a movie theater for the Niagara Wonders big screen film, a virtual reality helicopter ride above the Falls, and a gift shop. The park is OVERGROWN with weeds and WILD VEGETATION. It is very buggy, like other reviews have said. I find the walking path to be a huge letdown because of the obstructed views of overgrown vegetation and last falls leaves rotting on the side of it. There could be INCREDIBLE views but the folks in Niagara Falls NY choose to let CANADA take the cake here. There is a huge CREEPY FOREST ON GOAT ISLAND NEXT TO PARKING LOT 2. WHY IS THIS STILL HERE? I VISITED NIAGARA FALLS 25 YEARS AGO AND Twondered why it was there, still there and even uglier and creepier. It was a hot, humid August day, me and the kids did alot of walking (they are ages 4 and 6) and there are NO CONCESSIONS IN SIGHT AND NO SOUVENIER STORES EITHER. Someone told me there was a restaurant (who wants sit down?) and they sell souveneirs and refreshments in that place but it looked like a very outdated place so we just left the park. i imagined sitting down watching the sunset and listening to the mighty niagara roar, maybe enjoying a slushie or ice cream with my kids and STAYING A WHILE. JUST A THOUGHT....TAKE the -FOREST DOWN AND PUT RESTROOMS AND FAMILY FRIENDLY CONCESSIONS IN (MODERN) PEOPLE JUST MIGHT STAY A WHILE INSTEAD OF HEADING RIGHT TO CANADA WHICH IS WHAT WE DID. THIS WAS ALL IN THE HORSESHOE AREA I HEARD THERE ITS A LITTLE MORE TOURISTY NEAR THE AMERICAN FALLS BUT WE DROVE BY THERE ON OUT WAY OUT. SAW ONE CREEPY SOUVENEIR SHOP WITH DIRTY WINDOWS (LOOKS LIKE THEY WERE NEVER WASHED) DARK AND DANK LOOKING AND A BUNCH OF STREET VENDORS SELLING INDIAN AND HALAL FOOD. NOT A FAMILY FRIENDLY ICE CREAM JOINT OR PIZZA JOINT OR HOT DOG VENDOR IN SIGHT. my 4 year old boy said NEVER TAKE ME HERE AGAIN. we drove to canada and found our expectations met AND EXCEEDED for a tourist destination WITH MULTIPLE THINGS TO DO AND THE SURROUNDINGS WERE TOP NOTCH THE WAY THEY SHOULD BE OVER IN THE DARK AND CREEPY NIAGARA FALLS STATE PARK. THE WORST thing was the walking patch.....PATCHED WITH BLACK TOP IN AREAS NOT SMOOTH AT ALL. JUST GO TO CANADA DONT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE ALSO, THERE ARE NO GUARD RAILS ALONG MOST OF THE WALKING PATH!!!!!!!!!!!!! definately seemed crazy to me espcially because i have small children and the path is so overgrown THEY DID NOT REALIZE THAT THE EDGE OF THE WALKING PATH IS PRETTY MUCH A CLIFF AFTER THE OVERGROWN VEGETATION. I HAD TO REMIND MY KIDS REPEATEDLY AND IT REALLY FREAKED ME OUT THAT THEY COULD FALL RIGHT DOWN BECAUSE OF SOMEONE'S STUPID IDEA TO KEEP THIS PARK A "NATURE RESERVE?" MAINTAIN SAFETY FOR YOUR VISITORS PLEASE!!!!!! and make it pleasant for people to visit and spend their tourist dollars? amen
the park it was very beautiful, the staff is very friendly, and polite, and they actually answer your information, the park is clean, and the plants you can see they take care of them, to the staff keep up the great job, I can't wait to go again!
We were very excited to eat at this resturante however once we got there it was very disappointing. The wait staff fought amongst themselves. I asked the waitress for a cup of hot water to warm babies bottle and she still didnt bring it after 45 minutes. We were seated after a 10 monute wait, after 30 minutes waitress took drink order, 20 minutes later drink arrived incorrect. Almost 2 hours later and still no appetizer. We ended up leaving without eating anything. Very disappointing :(
I live in the Western New York area and Niagara Falls has always been my favorite place. I am so fortunate that this world wonder is almost in my backyard. I go there quite often and enjoy it more and more each time. How exciting it is to be able to get right up to the Falls and next to the Rapids. The feel of the mist and the roar of the Falls is absolutely phenomenal. The park is clean and has plenty to do for all ages.
Make a day of it and see everything Niagara Falls has to offer. I chose to get the Park Pass which includes all of the sites, plus trolley fares, Maid of the Mist, and Cave of the Winds. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the park and friendliness of the park attendants. Even with the trolley pass, there is still a significant amount of walking, so be sure to take comfy shoes.
There are plenty of great things to do. Parking is inexpensive, also. You can ride a boat to the falls, you can walk down by the falls (the Cave of the Winds tour; costs about $8 per person), you can go to different areas on top of the falls, take a trolley ride around the park, and much more. Also, every Friday and Saturday there are fireworks over the falls. It was GREAT!!
I have been to Niagara Falls twice. My experience both times was that the view is better from the Canadian side, but this state park is really nice (and it is on the US side). There are many things to do in this park, including walking under the falls (for $), taking one of those boat rides, dining, etc. The main part of this park is actually on a little island in between the US and Canada. The worst part of this experience was the plethora of bugs--all kinds--near the good viewing spots. I would advise people to spray themselves with OFF or some sort of bug repellent before strolling around the park. A small price to pay for such an exquisite view.
I loved it a lot. I had plenty of fun watching the falls
