Overview
Housed in a magnificent red building, this museum stands on Cimiez Hill, close to the city's Arènes (ancient amphitheater) and the Musée archéologique. Matisse lived in Cimiez from 1917 until his death in 1954. Paintings, drawings and some of his earliest works are on display, along with pieces that reveal his lesser-known talents as a sculptor. Several black and white photographs offer glimpses of the artist's private life.Open Hours
Su to Sa from 10:00 AM to 06:00 PMNot much excitementfor museum rats only
I am sorry to say that this exhibition's overall impresssion it gives is that Matisse was much over-rated and stagnated in his art while Picasso moved on. Some of the art work is actually badly executed and should not realy be on public show. Get a local bus up from town right to the Olive grove/park.The bus journey is more interesting.
expensive and not much to see, don't expect to see any Matisse paintings, go anyway if Nice is your only destination on your trip.
