Overview

Like chickcharnies, Lusca the sea monster and the Tongue of the Ocean, blue holes are part of the Andros mystery. Unlike Lusca however, blue holes definitely exist. It is strongly recommended, however, that you visit them with a local guide, as they can be treacherous. Blue holes are just what they sound like: holes channeled through earth, rock and coral. They are found just below sea level and sometimes at sea level. Experienced divers can explore most of them, and guides give tours of some. Jacques Cousteau was responsible for bringing blue holes into the public eye.
