Melvyn's was pretty good 25 years ago. In it's heyday Melvyn's had top-quality lounge and jazz performers. Now it's just a glorified Karaoke bar. If you want to pick up a 75-year-old alcoholic (who looks like 70 because of plastic surgery) then Melvyn's is the place for you.
the food, the service is great the food was very good every time the drinks were sipped it was refilled. The food was fresh the wait was no long. I was supprised how large the restaurant and the lounge is for the size of the property. you are well cared for at this restaurant and the prices are not bad. I expected to pay a lot more... and best part they park the car for you..
My daughter brought me to this restaurant because this is where she was asked to be married and wanted to also have her wedding here. We don't live close by. The grounds are beautiful. We waited an hour and a half just for soup/salad serving and we did have a reservation where we were seated promptly. When I requested a new round of drinks, I was brought an individual glass of wine. No other drinks were served. Our waiter at 9:00 PM brought two soups and one salad. My 12 year old grandaughter was with us which I knew she ordered salad. The waiter argued with me and said "no, soup". When my daughter and grandaughter returned to the table the soup was wrong and a salad had to be brought in. People that were brought in after us had already had there dinner in front of them. This is the first time in my life I felt like a second class citizen. Melvyns does cater to the reach and famous and if your not that, don't expect great service. We sat at a table that was constantly being bumped by every waiter coming through. Maybe the fire department should check out the situation (too many tables). Our reservation was at 7:30PM. We eventually left at 10PM with a $150 bill. No tip because of the terrible service. I'm just like anyone else other than I didn't hand them a plastic card. I paid with cash.
Dining at Melvyn's Restaurant in Palm Springs is always a grand dining experience. Everything, and we do mean EVERYTHING is done "PERFECT"! The ambiance, the service, the food presentation, the quality of the food..... as we said, EVERYTHING IS DONE PERFECT ! This is one of the finest restaurants that we have dine.
Based on excellent reviews my husband and I went to Melvyn's for our 11th anniversary and it was ok. It wasn't the best place we've ever been to ~ but nice. When you visit Melvyn's you have to not mind being treated like a celebrity. At this place they really wait on you hand and foot. It seemed as if they were trying to be too perfect ~ and for me that is a little bit of a turn off. When we were seated at our table they placed our napkins on our laps for us. The lighting was very dim and romantic but I had a hard time reading my menu as did the couple sitting at the table next to ours. Shortly after we ordered our food the lighting was lowered a little more ~ and that did not sit well with me. From what I noticed all of the tables for 2 were along the outside edges of the room (up against the walls of the room)~ So all of the parties of 2 were sitting next to each other, facing the center of the room. In my opinion I almost always prefer to sit across from my partner instead of next to them. The service was good. The waiters were nice and friendly. The food was good too. The price of entrees start at $25. A glass of wine is $10. If you bring your own wine there is a $20 per bottle corkage fee. After dinner we left the dining room to go to the lounge (piano bar area) a maitre'd carried my wine glass for me and sat us at a small table near the piano. Boy I really felt special :-)) But sometimes I just want to carry my own drink. The piano bar was very nice. Great "piano man"! He takes your song requests. Overall it was a nice night out. But I'm not sure I would go every year. Maybe next time we'll check out Spencers Restaurant.
