Overview
This vast living museum of desert flora and fauna is a must-see for most visitors to the Coachella Valley. More than 400 species thrive here, including Mexican gray wolves, bobcats, mountain lions and golden eagles. The Village Watutu exhibit expands the desert experience to include the regions of Africa, so the collection also includes camels, zebras and cheetahs. In addition, "Wildlife Wonders" shows are held in the Tennity Amphitheater daily. Check website for admission prices.Upcoming Events Near Living Desert (The)

My family and I had a nice time at the Living Desert. Admission is fairly inexpensive and there are a lot of interesting animals, including hyenas, zebra, giraffe, and leopards. I would recommend not going in the summer, however, as temperatures Palm Desert soar to over 100 hundred degrees Fahrenheit. In the winter, however, the days are beautiful and the temperature is perfect for walking around and enjoying all of the desert foliage and animals that the Living Desert has to offer. I was especially impressed by how easy it was to engage with the Keeper staff. I saw many keepers out on exhibits with the animals, and they were all very nice and informative when asked about the animals. I would definitely recommend a non-summer visit to this zoo when you are in the CA desert area. It was definitely worth the money. Finally, the review that says that there was "monkey feces" everywhere at this zoo is just plain bizarre - the Living Desert does not have monkeys, and we found the park to be very clean and well-kept!
we love the living desert, but think you are not receptive to members suggestions..last year and this we have suggested you give members a flat rate to ride the trams any day...they are usually quite empty and we would use the desert many many more times if we could ride the trams when we go..we do not care about all day passes...we care about going weekly and for a couple hours. $35 for ride anytime passes would be just right for seniors who cannot get around easily...your people have said alot of people have asked for that..you are not senior friendly there for people who find it hard to walk...donna daulph, member.
Very inexpensive - but good exhibits. We arrived at about 9:00am in the morning just in time to feed the Giraffe. The kids loved having the Giraffe eat right out of their hands. We went in July and it was hot - there are extended stretches where the park has little shade. If they were to install more misters and shading it would make the park better. You can generally get much closer to the animals at this zoo than others I have visited and the staff is very freindly. I'm glad we went and next time we visit we will likely go back.
We have visited many zoos throughout the world and this is one of our favourites. We try to support the zoo by visiting it at least once a year. The zoo has a wide variety of animals living in a spectacular desert setting. The animals appear contented and well looked after. The staff are very helpful and are happy to talk about the animals in their care. The animal and raptor shows are amusing and well worth watching. There are lots to see for those of you who enjoy desert flora. The zoo shop is well stocked and pricing is very reasonable. There are carts available for the children. And lastly, take plenty of water and make sure you have adequate sun protection.
Very nice zoo with many animals in natural exhibts. The Gardens were clean and well keep and the staff was very kind a imformative. Great for a day trip, low admission is a plus.
It was really boring and there was moneky feces everywhere. Very disgusting. yeah so u should not go here it is a bad place to go
I THOUGHT THE STAFF WAS VERY INFORMATIVE BUT A FEW OF THE WILD CATS CAGES SEEMED A LITTLE SMALL.
excellent for children and adults alike. large population of rare animals especially from africa, including many large cats. its a wildlife preservation, not a zoo, so the animals arent in cages. cheap admission; helpful staff.
We visited the living desert on our last vacation in the palm springs area. We had a lovely time just enjoying the scenery. The Living Desert is setup to show the different folage of the different deserts through out the world. The tours throughout the different desert regions was rather educational. It is a great way to spend the day.
We visit the Living Desert at least once a year. It is always interesting and fun with new exhibits each time we visit.
