Overview
This museum, devoted to the history of the French navy, was founded in 1827 on the initiative of one of Charles X's sons. Located in the west wing of the Palais de Chaillot since 1943, it displays models of ships, paintings, weapons, navigational instruments, sculptures and mementos from shipwrecks. The collection is both impressive and fascinating. Don't miss the model of a nuclear submarine, Napoléons boat or the beautifully made miniature aircraft carriers. Naval art enthusiasts will delight in the Ports Français series painted by Joseph Vernet.
Open Hours
