Overview
The owner of the elegant 18th-century hôtel, Dina Vierny, was Aristide Maillol's (1861-1944) model over a period of ten years. She opened this museum in 1995 to exhibit his works, which include drawings, prints, sculptures, paintings and sketches. Among the paintings is the delectable Jeune Fille au chapeau noir ("Girl wearing black hat"). The museum also exhibits works by Matisse, Bonnard, Picasso, Rodin, Gauguin, Degas and Cézanne, as well as surprising surrealist works such as Marcel Duchamp's Urinoirs (Urinals) and Roues de Bicyclette (Bicycle Wheels).Open Hours

While living in Paris for a year, this became one of my favorite museums in the city. A beautiful permanent collection of works by Aristide Maillol (you can see other sculptures of his in the gardens outside of the Louvre!) and others, and consistently the best temporary exhibits I've ever seen. If you are in Paris for only a day or two and feel overwhelmed by the huge museums, skip the crowds and come here.
After you've seen the 'musts,' this is one to seek out. It's small scale, accessible and in a wonderful neighborhood. The exterior of the building is worth a trip in itself. The Magritte exhibition was an unexpected bonus.
Beautiful exhibition spaces. Permanent exhibits of Maillol works on second floor. Changing gallery exhibits on first floor in the past years have included new works by Robert Rauschenberg, and a show of Duchamp. Worth a visit.
