This is the bridge that leads to "Silicon Island" in geographical and economic terms. This impressive feat of 13.5 kilometers (8.4 miles) of engineering, completed in 1985, was the first land link to mainland Malaysia. Beyond an unabashed showpiece of progress, its economic significance manifests in the factories of top global IT names in the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Park, from which the California comparison is drawn. Amidst chronic traffic congestion, a third link is being debated. A one-way toll, on the mainland side, is levied on cars going to the island.Open Hours
Mo to Su from 12:00 AM to 12:00 AMThe Penang Bridge is almost always jammed. I wish I never have to use it at all. To know more about the bridge, here's the details: http://www.penang-traveltips.com/penang-bridge.htm
I went to Penang last Saturday and drove to Penang using the bridge. The charge is RM7 per car only paid during when entering the island. There are no charges when exiting from the island either by bridge of by ferry (we took the ferry when exiting the island) It can be heavily jam during working days. For Malaysian folks, it is advisable to have Touch n Go or Smart Tag coz the cash lanes are usually busy with many cars.
I am a daily user of Penang Bridge and i like the Penang Bridge. I like the Penang Bridge is because the Penang Bridge offers a spectacular view of the capital city of Penang, Georgetown. However, i was unsatisfied with the fencing done on the bridge. Why they must make a fencing on the bridge? Anyway, not only they done fencing on to it, Penang Bridge also suffers from daily traffic jams.
